Subject:Is there a Media Pool in AP6?

Hi, I haven't used Acid in quite a while and recently upgraded from AP3 to AP6. One thing I can't find is a "Media Pool" like I have in Vegas 6 which shows me all the media in my project, and I can easily "preview" my media without going back out to the explorer. Does Acid have an equivalent? How can I easily find the loops I've used in a project so that further down the timeline I can use them again? My current project has so many tracks I have to minimize them to see them all and when I want to find a particular loop and use it again its hard to find and "preview". My media mgr and/or explorer have so many loops I'm getting lost trying to find an efficient method for finding and previewing a specific loop again, and the names of the loops are pretty kryptic so its not that easy to recognize by name either.... Is there a place to find my media used in my project listed like the media pool in Vegas? If not, boy could I use that! thanks much, Teaktart |

There isn't any Media Pool in ACID Pro 6 to speak of. The next closest thing would be to create a library in the Media Manager so that when you open any project, the project's media will be automatically added to the library (provided the "save media-usage relationships" option is checked in Options > Preferences > General). You could then right-click a specific sample and use the "find related items" command and filter by type. It's not exactly elegant, but seems the most logical (other than a Media Pool). Iacobus |

"You could then right-click a specific sample and use the "find related items" command and filter by type." mD, are you saying here that I would need to do a "search" for the "type" of files that I'm using in a project? I'm primarily a Vegas (audio only) user and am exploring the potential of moving fully into Acid as a replacement (that is if in the future Acid truly has the features that make Vegas such a powerful tool). So I too am missing the Project Media Pool in a big way to say the least, and its simply beyond my comprehension that a medial pool (or something similar) isn't included in Acid 6, especially with the increased amount of files that a project might have in this new version. Doing a "search by type" kind of thing to find a project's media doen't seem logical at all, much less "not exactly elegant" as you put it. Perhaps. . . hopefully. . . I'm just missing something and haven't yet discovered how this is supposed to work? Or is Acid missing this most obvious and fundamental of functions? I sure hope not! I know this is not what you want, but there is the Clip Pool on each track, that you can use to preview all the clips on the track. Perhaps Sony can add a "global" Clip Pool to the next version? |

Maybe I misunderstand the concept here, but if you "save all media with project" doesn't that create a type of "pool" by default with all your used files ? |

No you're missing the concept of the media pool, and I also have found this very useful in Vegas. It's just another one of those disappointments in Acid in comparison to Vegas. Hopefully Sony is considering adding it to Acid 7, along with all the other missing Vegas audio features. Acid does not have a global media pool (hopefully its in the next version), but it does have a clip pool for each track. The union of these should be equivalent to the global media pool. Randy |

OK, I'm not alone in "needing" a media pool ! The track clip pool is a baby step to what the media pool in Vegas can do. One big "need" is to preview each loop without having to wade thru all my media in the media manager or explorer to do just that. I'm thinking for now I'll need good old paper and pen to keep my own off screen notes. What a big PIA ! Or drag a copy of each loop I use into a basic folder off to the side somewhere? I think Randy's idea of both a track clip pool for each track AND a project media pool would be the best possible setup. Sony, hear our pleas..... please! Teaktart |

drbam: Yeah, that's pretty much it. To be honest, I don't have ACID adding the media automatically to my library like it does by default. (I'm just too much of a neatnik I guess. I don't like the idea of adding media to my library that I may never use again.) That being said, I still use the Media Manager in the way it was intended for. It by no means functions like the "Media Pool" like Vegas has, nor is it a substitute for it. (And Vegas, of course, has both a Media Pool and a Media Manager.) I wouldn't be surprised if a media pool of some sort makes into the next version of ACID, being as it is ACID has adopted some of Vegas' features. Iacobus |
