1X1 means 1 out and 1 in, so if you have 1 keyboard, then this is all you need.

If you have more than one midi controller (i.e. two keyboards, or 1 keyboard and also a drum pad controller, etc) or if you have more than one sound module (i.e. synth) you want connected on the output, then you will need more than a 1X1.

but is sounds like for your purposes you have what you need.
