There is one in my book on HDV, but haven't put one on the web.
here's a quickie so I don't sound like a piker...

Start with 23.976 timeline.
Drop on HDV media whether CineForm or m2t, or gearshift proxy already converted to 24p.

Edit.

Render to 24p output without worrying about pulldown if you're going to DVD.

Done

David Jimerson has a good tutorial on 24p, although it's not specifically related to the Z1 or HDV. Search this forum for a link.

Hi,
Thanks Spot.. I have your book !! At least the first edition of it..Will have to take a look..Unless it is just in the newer edition..
I am assuming it is best to shoot 50i using Z1, if you wish to convert to 24 p..??

Thanks,
Mike M.

You know, the situation has changed just recently. If you get Cineform ConnectHD 3.03 and capture or convert 1080 60i using the reverse pulldown removal and deinterlace options, you now get as good 24p as I have seen. Two weeks ago I would have done it another way, but right now, IMHO the best way to get 24p from the Z1/FX1/A1/HC1/HC3 is to capture with Cineform with the 24p conversion options during capture. That or capture using HDVSplit and batch convert the capture using HDlink 3.03 to Cineform 3.03 24p.

By the way, I started a thread about this not too long ago, and Eric Stammer posted some pretty footage of 60i converted to 24p this way. You can find the thread here:

A couple of other things about doing the 24p conversion on capture with Cineform 3:

1/ It's really fast. Conversion and capture doesn't take that much longer than capture alone.
2/ The quality is really good. It looks better to me than a DVFilm conversion (my third choice) or a Vegas conversion (my second choice).
3/ You can also convert to 720 24p if you like.
4/ Converting before you capture is way easier on your PC and takes up less hard disc space. My aging P4 3.06 P4 with the slower 533 bus flies with the 24p Cineform footage. 720 24p footage is even easier on it. I can preview at full resolution when I edit with 720 24p Cineform.
