Subject:Crossfades at in/outs of Paste-mix in 8d?

Maybe I've missed it, but I don't see a way to define a true crossfade for paste/mix, both for the "in" and the "out". There are the "edge" fade controls, but those aren't much help; I'd really like a crossfade "centered" over the in/out points with a user-definable crossfade width that could applied to both ends of the paste operation. I know there is a "crossfade" option, but best I can tell it's only good for a single edit, not both ends at once.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Are you "punching in", that is, laying a small piece in the middle of existing audio that then continues after the smaller piece? If so, i don't believe Sound Forge handles this well. The paste/mix function really shines when you are adding to the end of existing audio. In that case the crossfade duration is determined by the length of the overlap. I don't know how you would do this properly when pasting within existing audio. I suppose you could split the existing audio into two sections, cut the second section and paste it to a new window, trim both sections back as necessary, then paste/mix the new audio to the first section and then paste/mix the second section to the end of this. It would be a pain and sync would be that much harder to maintain.

What i'd like to see in Sound Forge is a paste feature similar to Vegas. The pasted section should "float" over the existing audio. This would allow the user to slide it back and forth in real time while listening to it to determine the correct paste position. The ends could then easily be trimmed and faded as necessary. After the user is satisfied the paste could be finalized, somewhat like flattening layers in a photo editing program. Now that would be slick!

Ohhhh that would be really GREAT! I'm so used to doing editing in Vegas that these kinds of functions just seem impossibly clunky and awkward in SoundForge. It seems to me that SoundForge should be the app that shines at this kind of thing?

yeah that would be nice indeed. but then, perhaps Sony figures that for example CD/DVD Architect or Acid/Vegas are meant for this kind of work ? SF is a sample editor after all, not a mixing application. but yes, i would definitely like to see that functionality in SF as well.

Or SF plus Vegas or Acid. Must still end up cheaper than Wavelab ?!!

What gets me is why there is the expectation that every audio app must be able to do every audio process imaginable. Then you end up with a muddled behemoth like Audition.
