Subject:AP 6.0a - Can't Export or Import MIDI files

I just updated my ACID Pro 6.0 to 6.0a. Prior to the update I couldn't insert some MIDI files into an ACID project - although it worked fine in AP 5.0. Still the same problem. When I drag a MIDI file (created in AP 5) into the project, nothing happens. No new MIDI track is created. I've tried all of the right-click options from the Explorer (Add to Project, Add to Project with Events, etc.) and I simply cannot get the MIDI file into my project. What is also very odd is that I have a new project created in AP 6.0 with numerous MIDI clips that were recorded inside AP 6.0 (pre-6.0a), and I can't export them in any way, shape or form. I've tried using "Save As.." from the Clip Pool and from the Clip Properties windows; each time, nothing happens when I select "Save As...". (FYI, I saw another post that having parentheses in the file name created problems...this is not the case here.) HELP, PLEASE! |

File / Open should work with midi files - I just tried one and it opened up with 14 tracks ... or dragging a .mid file to the timeline also works. For export, File / Export Midi. Message last edited on6/8/2006 2:46:57 AM byPeterWright. |

No problem here. Maybe it's a Windows issue. What's the file-type association for MIDI on your PC? Also, maybe, check those read/write/archive permisssions on MIDI files. Are your files on your hard drive - or some other medium? I had a problem with that on tracker program I use. |

.MID and .MIDI files are associated with Windows Media Player on my machine. This shouldn't be a problem...I can't imagine the developers making the file association a dependency. And if it were, then one would suspect that reinstalling the software would repair any problems like this...right? In the absence of any other ideas, this is what I'm going to do. I'll report back on my progress. |

Well, I'm almost fixed. The first problem - save as - was fixed in the Folder Options tab. The options were set to "Use separate defaults for each type of project media save" and under each the "<project>" selection was active. IT TURNS OUT THAT "<project>" DOES NOTHING. Once I set it to a real folder, it would save correctly. The second problem, importing, is only partially fixed. I can only import certain MIDI files. Some of them, which were recorded with AP 5.0c, do not import...the same thing happens. I select the MIDI file in the explorer, it previews fine, but when I drag it into the track area, nothing happens...no errors, no MIDI events either. On the other hand, if I export any MIDI files from AP6.0a, they drag and drop perfectly. This is obviously some kind of bug. At the very least, AP 6 should indicate a problem with the MIDI file. |

I had this problem for awhile before I reinstalled ACID. It just started happening one day and I couldn't drag and drop any midi files. They just didn't show up in a track. I don't know any other answer except to reinstall ACID. It's a royal PITA but it seems to have worked. I think ACID just goes haywire for some reason and stops functioning properly and then it's time for a reinstall. It's a bit like an instrument that goes out of tune or a tempremental mucisian - we have to humour it's little foibles...sigh! :) |

Thanks for the suggestion. I neglected to mention in my last post that I DID reinstall, but it didn't fix the problem. I've reported it to Support, but I have yet to receive a response. (sigh.) |
