Connect HD 3.0.3 now live.

David Newman wrote on 6/6/2006, 9:25 PM
Thank for the feedback from helpful testers of 3.0.2, we fixes a couple of small items and we now releasing 3.0.3. This is good for all HDV Vegas users. If you don't wish to purchase Connect HD 3.0.3 it is still worth installing as it will update you CineForm codec to the latest version. For those who do purchase (or existing users) you will experiment high performance conversion options for HDLink or HDV and Panasonic P2 media, plus codec operations outside of Vegas (from AfterEffects to VirtuaDub.)

Dan, a quick question: is the serial number referenced in the download? I have Connect HD v3 on two machines (separate copies purchased) so can the one downloaded upgrade do both machines?
DJPadre wrote on 6/6/2006, 9:42 PM
interesting stuff, been looking into this as a means to edit DVCProHD in Vegas, however just wondeirng abotu afew things which werent covered on the site.

What colour space is being used for the 8bit Intermediates created from mxf's?

Is there an option to tweak overcranked/undercranked footage? Or is this sone on teh vegas timeline using the resampling mode? (right click the clip, select sample rate and adjust as needed)
Reasoni ask is that I couldnt find any reference to tha variable frame rates of the camera itself

Apart from that, if i install the demo version and it updates my Vegas native cineform codecs, what happens after teh trial period expires?

last question wa answered here -

For Connect HD Trial-Only Users: If you install Connect HD and choose to not purchase (by later uninstalling Connect HD), you have the option (during uninstall) to retain installation of the upgraded CineForm Intermediate codec components that were installed with Connect HD. These upgraded components provide encoder quality selection during rendering, plus faster decoder performance than the CineForm codec that ships with Vegas.

Serena,

You only need one download to update booth you licensed PCs.

DJPadre,

The MXF files are converted in the YUV color space, preserving their source color type (for DVCPRO-50 601 and HD 709.) The over and undercranking at different frame rates is supported. The speed the MXF file reports that it should playback as it honored in the converted AVI.

Yes, the install new codec component will not expire for Vegas operations -- there used to be a bug regarding this which was recently fixed. We do encourage users to try Connect HD and HDLink, but if they prefer to go without, they get the benefit of a codec upgrade.

are tehre any Pal NTSC nuances we should be aware of?? Other than that, i have to say without Cineform, we'd all be screwed...

Good work guys!

I like the new feature where you can specify a destination directory different than the source. This really helps if you want to convert a bunch of m2t files that were captured with HDVSplit and saved on to DVD-Rs.

here we go with teh pestering qustions again..

ok in installed the trial version, then uninstalled. Unitl i get the HVX i wont be needing the full version

anways, i installed it, and then uninstalled it, ad allowed it to retain the codec (the lil pop up window) for windows media.

Now when i go into vegas, and i select Cineform AVI, it still shows up as 2.5
now the configuration button is there and i can tweak to my liking, but is this right? Should it show up as 2.5?? Or have i stuffed up somewhere?
Marco. wrote on 6/7/2006, 1:07 AM
The latest codec version actually IS 2.5. The one which comes with Vegas is 2.4.

David

Just noticed what I think is a typo on Cineform's web site. It says,

"If you purchased Connect HD prior to February 15, 2005 your upgrade price for Connect HD v3.0 is $99."

I think you mean 2006.

The download says I have to be running XP SP2. I have no desire to screw up a perfectly good system by installing SP2. I have installed it on several client machines, and while there is nothing horrible about it, there are several things that it does that I don't want to deal with right now on the computer that is my main platform.

Do I really need SP2 ??
David Newman wrote on 6/7/2006, 7:20 AM
Anyone with activation problem email support@cineform.com.

Regarding ther need for SP2 -- that is only for your convience in supporting HDV cameras, if you get the camera drivers working on SP1 then Connect HD will work fine. This is a recommendation to reduce technical support issues -- HDV camera work better with SP2, but it is not required. Note: Please not call support if you camera is not seen in SP1, as they will ask you to install SP2.

David,

Man, you are great! Thanks for all the support and the very clear answer.

Getting HDV to work on SP1 was a bit of a challenge, but fortunately Spot had posted about that many months ago, so that has long since been working just fine. I will definitely install the download. I've been meaning to try the product and see what it can do for my workflow.

One note for all, not a problem but something to be aware of. When uninstalling and it asks you if the codec should stay on your system, don't tell it to remove the codec. If you do, it'll be wiped off and no longer available for any rendering from Vegas. Even the codec that came with Vegas will be gone. Of course this is very easy to fix, just reinstall HD connect (trial or full version).

Just a little thing to be aware of (not a real problem).

To Cineform: thank's for the update. I gave it a trial and will be upgrading soon.

What is that? I feel like I am out of the know now. :(
Requiem_ad wrote on 6/7/2006, 1:42 PM
first let me apologize for being a bit slow on this topic, but If I understand this correctly, I hook my HD cam into my comp via firewire and instead of using Vegas to capture, I would use Connect HD then import the file into vegas when done with the capture?
I use an HDR-FX1 I am a novice, so settings help would be good, is it easy?
I tend to use a lot of default settings so far out of fear of totally messing things up
David Newman wrote on 6/7/2006, 2:04 PM
The default setting will work for any PC 3.2GHz+, and you will find your time spent capturing and converting will be many times faster -- it is much easier than using Vegas for capture. Once you get comfortable there are many option to enahnce/manipulate your footage during the conversion.
