I am still using SF 8.0, and leery of updating because almost every update or upgrade causes hours of recovery, forum time, and in one case the loss of noise reduction unit. Can anyone advise me if the 8.0d has been a problem or tips to update without more problems? Thank you all. SG |

I'm probably the wrong person to ask because for me every single update has gone through flawlessly. I've never had a hitch or any problems updating. |

I updated from 8.0b in the box to 8.0d and everything is running great - some people though seem to have been less fortunate... |

If you are leary then you should take some steps to elliminate the concern. Sound Forge will install information into your system registry which is located on the same hard drive as where Windows is installed. By default Sound Forge will install onto this same hard drive, unless you tell it to install else where. So if you want to get back to exactly where you where previously to updating Sound Forge 8.0 to 8.0d, then you need to image the hard drives of where these components are located. It may be one drive or 2 if you choose to install elsewhere. So if you are really leary, alls you need to do is get a software program that will create an "Image" back up of your hard drive. Norton Ghost is one such program although there are many others. The Basic concept is that you can create a hard drive image by backing everything up to a DVDr, then you can use the utilities to restore that hard drive back to where it once was. Other than that I have had no problems with updating to SF 8.0d. Now that is only true if you use an "update" process. If you choose to uninstall SF 8.0 and then install SF 8.0d, you will then lose everything in that process. One other thing to get is this utility from the Sony site, which is a Preset Manager. Download here: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/download/step2.asp?DID=469 This allows you to save all your plugin presets that you may have created and then restore them, thus you don't lose any valuable presets that you may have created. Cheers, Brad |
