I think Sound Forge, particularly their XFX, are getting a bit long in the tooth. Hope some changes (and major additions) are planned, assuming the release of version 9 isn't far behind ACID's. |

Sony is a coporation -- they would rather have us buy another instance of the same software. I held off of SF8 -- purchased WAVELAB and some other pluggins -- it is a good add on. |

Well, yes, Wavelab is certainly a fine program and the audio montage and cool level meters and pan phasing oscillioscope plus more usable plugs are great, however the program is almost double the cost of Soundforge, so it ought to be good ! For me, they need to make the meters more like wavelabs (very cool with average and peaks plus L/R stereo balance indicator at the same time and horizontal, with RMS and peak db meters displayed under each other simulltaneously) and less like audacity freeware, have a stereo-pan/phase oscilloscope. Better support for vst - most of my steinberg vst effects do not work. A change in interface to be more like wavelab plug-ins being more visual (i.e. have virtual knobs and sliders etc) instead of a windows dialog box. The multi-band compressor being a GUI means you can effect all 4 bands at once easily and drag and drop the levels etc, instead of having to type values into 2 pages of dialog boxes. Still, this wishlist does not detract from the fact that Soundforge 8 is a great program for the money and I suspect implementing some of the above will lead to a prices being jacked up a bit. |

"Sony is a corporation, they would rather have us buy an instance of the same software..." This seems a little unfair to me, there have been a lot of additions in SF8 compared to SF7, including no less than vst support, asio support, cd architect bundled, scrub, batch conversion, flash import, and more... And remember that YAMAHA owns Steinberg and they are also a corporation... |

>>Better support for vst - most of my steinberg vst effects do not work. Which VSTs from Steinberg don't work? Many of the Steinberg VST FX that are part of the Steinberg apps will only run in Steinberg hosts. They are coded this way as they expose private functionality that only Steinberg knows how to expose. Peter |

Thanks, that probably explains a lot... Y'know although there are some improvements that can be made, I am very impressed by what SF8 can do. |
