Hi Sony,

what is actually the best way to update from AP6.0 to 6.0a. Deinstall 6.0 before installing 6.0a or install it paralel to or over the 6.0 version? Thanx for your answer.

regards klabue

It's a lot faster to install over top of the existing version. This also preserves any presets and preferences you may have set up.

is it really necessary to dl and install a 100mb file each time?

It's a full release, so yes.

What's the alternative? A whole bunch of patch files. That has its own drawbacks.

Besides, what's a 100MB download every few months or so, when an update is released?

Cheers,

Randy

I installed over Acid 6.0
Acid 6.0a is working very well here!

I installed over Acid 6.0 and I get a noise everytime I stop Cubase when Acid is in ReWire slave mode. after a deinstall and a new install the noise disappear.

Well, yes, it's nice to get a well packaged update.
But not everyone is on broadband. I emailed Sony to ask for a CD explaining that I have dial-up and they said 'No, go somewhere (library, cybercafe) to download and burn it yourself.' (assuming these places have cd burners)
Gee thanks.
They sent me me a CD for the last Acid 5.0 update - I guess they need to watch their costs to keep prices low for us.

That's unfortunate, but I guess there is critical mass now, it is 2006 after all.

Some folks still use Windows 95 - does Acid Pro 6.0a run on that platform?

Sony has done an analysis and determined its not worth the cost. Frankly, if I were a software publisher today I would probably do the same.

Cheers,

Randy

The other possibility is to find a friend or a friendly fellow forum user (like ... umm ... me) with broadband and a burner who is willing to burn and mail you a copy. I could put the latest releases of ACID, Vegas, DVD Architect, Sound Forge, Cinescore, etc. along with all the manuals on a CD and you'd have it in a couple of days.

For the quickest path to upgrading, you can just install 6.0a over your existing install. (The installer will find your existing install and ask if you want to update it.)

If you have problems, or you just want to start fresh, you can simply uninstall your existing install and install the update (boy, that was a mouthful). The "update" can also act as a full version. Just be aware to keep your serial key handy as you'll have to enter that info again as well as customize any settings you had.

Sometimes, the latter option can clear up some issues people may have when they update.
