Subject:Jamstix 1.61 Crash in Acid 6.0a

Just my luck. I crashed Acid 6.0a within the first 30 seconds of trying it :-( This could likely be a Jamstix problem, so I will report it over at the Rayzoon forums. When I added another MIDI track to the sample "Vast Horizon.acd" project and set it to Jamstix 1.61 I get: "Access violation at address 11153385 in module 'jamstix.dll'. Read of address 00000218." Although if I add a jamstix softsynth to a new project I do not get this error, and the synchronization is working so this is certainly much better. Randy |

Just installed 6.0a and opened Vast H. Added a soft synth, selected Jamstix. Within Jamstix, selected Free Jam button and pushed play in acid. Jamstix performed without a hitch (even through the timing change at bar 65 which I hadn't seen or heard before). If you don't mind educating me, Randy, why do you insert a midi track and set it to Jamstix? I haven't done that before. |

>Randy, why do you insert a midi track and set it to Jamstix? I haven't done that before. I hadn't thought of adding a softsynth without a MIDI track. That would certainly be a more convenient thing to do for using Jamstix. Nevertheless, when I do as I described - open Vast Horizon, right-click to add a new MIDI track, and then insert a Jamstix softsynth, Jamstix consistently crashes for me. Does it crash for you if you follow my steps? Thanks, Randy |

I am unable to reproduce this following your steps. Can you provide step by step, being very specific in how you do everything? Peter Message last edited on6/2/2006 6:41:36 PM bypwppch. |

OK, I think I'm with you. I rightclicked in the track area and inserted a new midi track. Selected the button on the track "header" and assigned it to Jamstix. Got the following error msg: Access violation at address 0C603351 in module 'jamstix.dll'. Read of address 00000218. Clicked OK on message and it popped up again. Clicked OK. No crash of Acid or Jamstix (Jamstix docked at lower left of window), so....I set the track to record midi and recorded a few cymbals crashing, no problem. I then set Jamstix to Free Jam and was successful with that as well. However, everytime I go back and select that midi track I get the error msg. No crash of Acid or Jamstix so far (by crash I mean the program did not shut down). When I select the midi track, Jamstix disappears from the softsynthprop window but is still in the mixer window. If I click on another track I can bring Jamstix back to the softsynthprop window. Geoffrey Message last edited on6/2/2006 7:38:26 PM bywithagee. |

SonyPCH, Here is what I just posted over on the Rayzoon support forum. I suspect its some glitch in their software, but you never know. To be clear, here are some more specific repro steps (from memory): 1) Upgrade to Acid Pro 6.0a 2) Open Acid and load "Vast Horizon.acd". 3) Scroll down the track view to the empty area after the last track. 4) Right-click on the empty area and choose Add MIDI track. 5) On the new track header, click on the keyboard icon and select "Insert Soft Synth". 6) Choose jamstix from the VSTi chooser list. I have Jamstix 1.61 with Drum packs 1 and 2 installed. Thanks, Randy |

gap, I'm relieved someone besides me can reproduce this. Thanks for the effort. "Crash" might have been a strong word, certainly on the whole Acid appears to continue working, but the Jamstix track is quite messed up. Cheers, Randy |

To followup on this - it was a Jamstix issue and is fixed with the latest Jamstix beta 1825 or later. Thanks, Randy |

Yep. Had a great interaction with Rayzoon. They verified the problem on their side and said a beta would be available soon to correct the problem. Peter |

Jamstix and Acid 6 go really well together design-wise. Quite often you just want to assign a bus to Jamstix, not a midi track. With Acid 6 this works out better than it does with Sonar or Tracktion where you really have to assign a track even if you don't use it. |
