Subject:jerky SVCD playback after installing ACIDpro6

Just spent *far* too many hours on this, but thought my research might help someone else. Just made myself a new PC and decided to upgrade from AP4 to AP6 (gave 5 a bodyswerve after reading tales of woe). Seems to install OK, only had a quick play around (waiting for full CD/DVD by post). Then, later, loaded up an SVCD to watch, only to discover it's now jerky! Audio OK, vid goes quick-slow-quick-slow-etc. This was in players such as BSplayer, Zoomplayer and Media Player Classic. Seemed OK in WinDVD but I only have that on for testing. But all I'd installed was an audio app, i.e. Acid Pro 6! To cut a long hair-pulling story short, discovered the reason was AP6 installing a bunch of codec'y things and giving them priority without so much as a by-your-leave. I'm talking about the "MainConcept MPEG" stuff here. Grrr. Once I'd reduced the "merit" of "MainConcept MPEG Splitter" from 600002 to 400000 via Zoomplayer, and rebooted, SVCD playback was back to normal. (I used Zoomplayer's Filter Manager, but there are probably other tools for the job.) There was a spot of serendipity to all this - in the process of learning about codec "merit" settings I found a way to make non-seekable (apparently 0 length) MPG files seekable again: more fiddling with "merit" settings :o( I don't (so far) use Acid for video, so I don't know if Sony's "all your merit are belong to us" approach is necessary for something else. That's why I went for the "merit" course rather than simply de-register the MainConcept files. Perhaps someone here knows *why* the Acid programmers think it's reasonable to hijack my PC's video subsystem? What about an installation option or two? Too difficult? (If it's of interest I can supply more detail on what I changed with Zoomplayer to get my vids playing smoothly again. The changes are system-wide, even if Zoomplayer is the tool I used.) |

What is the average age group here in the acid forums? Or maybe I should be asking "what's the average IQ" ? Why on earth are you worried about SVCD and acid version "any"?...much less posting "research" about it? Nothing announces more clearly that, instead of creating, your watching too much video! ( "zoomplayer" references....err....research (s'cuse). How about: Get to work with applications ... or don't and watch vcd's on any media player or windvd, etc..etc. Try and "bodyswerve" that reality, Mr. Research.
