There's also a Cinescore forum added to the Forums on this site - the sticky features links to the Cinescore product page, the Cinescore press release and the Download a Free 30-day Trial.

noticed at least with the trail version version if you import a HDV CFDI the aspect ratio is wrong even if template is set for widescreen.
havent had time to play with it yet to see if HDV is even supported.

I listened to the themes they had samples of - Not bad but I think I like my SonicFire Pro music better - Does anyone know if Sony is going to include more than these themes with the software to work with? Or in lieu of that, will they have additional themes available at reasonable prices?

I still haven't decided if I'm gonna go with Cinescore or go with SFP 4.0 upgrade (leaning toward Cinescore but you never know).

I know more music "paks" will be available in the future. Not sure how much music is in the full shipping verision vs download. Since it says it requires a DVD player, I suspect there is more music than the download.
ECB wrote on 5/25/2006, 3:05 PM
The Cinescore download includes only two (2) themes. You need to order the "Optional Cinescore Shipped Components" to get all the "paks" included in the boxed version.

I listened to all of the themes. This is something I'm going to buy right away. Note that with my comments below, I have not downloaded it yet or tried it.

Actually, this appears to me that the Madison group have been listening to our forum threads on music for our videos. Concerns over licensing rights to music, liability, the need to have some background music etc.

Sure it's not ZZ Top or Hollies "Long Cool Woman" (thanks Stonefield!, one of my favorite songs), but it definitely fits the need.

Now I can totally purge my system of Pinnacle Studio 8. The only reason I've kept it on my system is the "Generate Background Music" tool. Give it a time limit, pick a genre, some options: get a cheezy score that fits your timeframe. Sony's samples don't sound cheezy!

Wish list already: 48Khz rate; maybe 24-bit themes; theme builder; and yes, cheap themes.

Thanks Madison Media Group!

I'm impressed. I had not yet listened to Cinescore because I assumed it was similar to SmartSound. I started NLE editing with Pinnacle 7, and the SmartSound feature was ideal for matching the audio length to the video. While the result was decent overall, it still had a Casio keyboard sound to it.

But with it's background in Acid and loop tracks library, it makes sense that Cinescore would be a better product.
farss wrote on 5/25/2006, 7:25 PM
I bought the SmartSound upgrade with the Megapack and I'll buy Cinescore, one can never have too much choice in music.

In my discussion with the Smatsound people even they agreed that Cinescore is a good product but not one that really competes with theirs. I do work where I just need music in a hurry, for that Smartsound is great and the new features mean I can render out to multiple tracks and fudge it a bit more in Vegas.

So why would I buy Cinescore as well. For those times where I need even more precise control, hopefully jobs that have the budget for me to futz around.

Of course none of these products solve the problem of the client who just has to have a top 40 tune in their video. If someone could only develop an instant ethics drug, let me tell you I'd be adding it to the coffee/beer/water/wine I give to clients.

I have downloaded the Trial version.Installed and opened cinescore. After insert Generated music,it's display a window show as:

Cinescore could not start.

The Cinescore engine could not be initialized. Please re-install app..

Error Code:0x8004e01b ,startup code 2

after re-install cinescore, the same Error window displayed.
Wes C. Attle wrote on 5/26/2006, 3:44 AM
It gives me all sorts of CinescoreAC10.eng and Exception errors upon boot and when I try to load the app. The error details reference quicktime, but uninstalling and reinstalling QT didn't help. Cinescore loads with errors, then produces exception errors "Cinescore could not start" every time I try to generate music.

I think I better wait for version 1.0b! I hate programs that cause errors when Windows starts....

All I can say is "I was underwhelmed."

GenJerDan wrote on 5/26/2006, 5:19 AM
I'll probably buy it.

Then hope 1973 comes back so I can make films starring Elliot Gould in a polyester shirt and 'fro. The music doesn't really seem like it would fit anything else.

Some of the music is ok, but the name 'cinescore' make me think of cinematic scores of music. I just don't hear that in any of the themes. Maybe I will go back and listen again. Now if there were a broad range of themes and we could pick the 20 themes that would best fit our needs, then I would purchase.

Just got my email $175.

Am I wrong about thinking Cinescore fills a very small gap between Acid and pre-canned music ?
Tech Diver wrote on 5/26/2006, 7:16 AM
I can't comment on the product itself, but I have mixed feelings about the music themes. I listened to all of them carefully and can't help but feel that there is a strong "artificial" aspect to them - very Midi-like. However, I do think they are significantly better than the pieces I have heard in the Smartsound products, which are incredibly campy in my opinion.

I can definitely see using some themes for parts of the Scuba diving projects that I occasionally edit, but I think I will stick to my other music sources for the time being, and continue the tedious process of manually splicing in measures to match the lengths of my videos. Perhaps when there are more themes that are to my liking, I might purchase the product.

I do like the fact that it supports hinting, and would like to hear from those of you who have tried Cinescore if this really works.
Jay Gladwell wrote on 5/26/2006, 7:25 AM

I have to agree with Adontech and FuTz. It's simply too limited in too many ways, especially the "music selection" (and I use the term loosely). Too much "techno" sounding stuff.

I'll stick with ACID.

Peter Rabby: You are I believe running Windows Server 2003 x64- this is an UNSUPPORTED OS at this time.

Just got my email $175.

$175 for the download that apparently only includes 2 themes but add the "Optional Cinescore Shipped Components Includes Cinescore content DVD containing 20 Themes and over 300 audio transitions and sound effects, Cinescore application CD, quick start manual, and keyboard command shortcut list" for another $15 and you're up to $190.

I have been using Cinescore for only a couple of days and IMHO it is one slick program. After many years of lessons and practice I still play music like a engineer. The only way I can carry a tune is on a CD. For people like my self who have little or no musical talent Cinescore is a godsend. Cinescore is not "John Williams in a box", or will I ever be a candidate for an academy award, but it works great for me. :)

Hey Rique, This is what it says on the site. Are you saying you only got 2 of these 20 themes and that the rest cost more money?

"Cinescore software ships with 20 Themes in a wide array of categories, musical styles, and tempos that can be easily adjusted to fit perfectly with your video project"
