Hi there. I'm yet another person with the dreaded startup crash. For me, it's "The instruction at "0x00711866" refreenced memory at "0x0000000c". The memory could not be "read". In the splash screen, it says "Initializing VST instruments", and the ".\Portable\ReWireDLL.cpp(895) : VERIFY failure" error as well, when you close the first. Computer is a Dell Inspiron 8000 with 512 meg. System details in profile. Notes: A) Vst folder has no VSTs in it, just installer.phdata (CDs with extra stuff have not arrived yet. :) ) B) MediaManager is fully installed, and can be started up manually through the service panel with no apparent problems. C) No other rewire software is installed on this computer, nor has been since it's last complete rebuild. Here's the steps I've tried, but none have solved this issue: 1) Windows Update (is fully up to date as of today, including the .net 1.1 sec.rollup) 2) Uninstalled previous versions of ACID (as well as older SoundForge versions as well .. older versions did work fine prior to uninstall) 3) Uninstall/Reinstall 4) Removing installer.phdata from VST folder. 5) Renaming following .dlls to .foo: ACID6ReWire.dll sfdlssynth.dll sfrewiresynth.dll sfvstisynth.dll sfvstwrap.dll 6) Put in a vst into the vstfolder (it crashes without any errors if i do that, but that's the only change) Anything else I can try? Interesting sidenote: it did install and run absolutely fine on my desktop, which has Reason, quite a number of VSTs, etc, installed. Go figure. KDLynch |

Try a brute force method such as formatting the laptop and installing everything clean? (Install only what you need.) Iacobus |

It is still pretty clean... only 2 months (had to put in a new harddrive... last one bit the dust). And software installed is minimal. This is the first upgrade on software I've had to do on it, excepting of course the weekly MS Windows updates. :) |

I may have just solved it... I don't have any vsts, but I do have some dX thingies. Went ahead to make sure no unneeded programs were on harddrive, and there was one: DirectiXer 2.5 ... uninstalled it, and lo and behold, Acid 6 is now working. Go figger. Thanks Iacobus for bringing that up... caused me to double check what was installed. :) KDLynch |

Hmm...I just noticed that you mentioned putting a VSTi into the VSTi folder lets ACID starts up fine (?). I would keep it that way until your extra DVDs arrive. ON EDIT: Ah, cool. Just saw your latest post. Iacobus Message last edited on5/25/2006 11:20:02 AM byIacobus. |

No, the VST in the VST folder just caused it to crash with no error at all, still wouldn't start up fine. Apparently was just the one dX causing the issue. Hopefully, this thread will help others with the same startup crash. Maybe the update will help ACID behave more civilized when finding a VST or dX that it doesn't like. :) Thanks again. :) |
