can some one tell me how significant an improvement a dualcore 3.0 is over a single 3.0. i know it seems like a dumb question but how much of a boost in power is it.20%,50%,80% thanx in advance |

I'm planning to build a new PC. My current PC is a P 4 3,4Ghz HT. Single core, with 2Go of memory, DDR 3200. I'll buy an Intel Pentium D 960. Dual core. I guess I'll have like at least 40% of performance increase. It depends on my memory also. If I go 2Go DDR2, I'll probably have at least 60% of performance improvement compared to my current setup. |

> can some one tell me how significant an improvement a dualcore 3.0 is over a single 3.0. It depends entirely on the software that you use. If the software does not take advantage of the second core then you won’t see any difference. I went from a Pentium 4 3.0 to an AMD Athon X2 4600+ and cut my video rendering time in half for most jobs. That’s significant but Vegas takes advantage of the second core. I think ACID does too. Something to consider: Independent testing has repeatedly shown that the Pentium dual cores are dogs. They run hotter and slower than AMD dual cores. They’ve lost every benchmark there is against the AMD dual cores and people on the Video side who buy them and wonder why my rendering times are 2x faster than theirs learn too late that AMD dual cores are just incredibly more efficient and faster. I’m not sure how much this matters for audio but I thought AMD was always recommended over Intel for audio anyway. I wouldn’t buy a Pentium dual core. Right now, AMD dual cores are the fastest chips available. ~jr |

AMD has been making better, faster and cheaper chips than Intel for years now. I don't know why anyone would even still consider Intel at this point IMO. |

Don't speak too fast Thenoizzbox. Intel is doing a come back with the Conroe, and it seems that it's going to be a difficult time for AMD. |

what about using dualcores with uad cards. i have heard that intel was better because of the motherboards. are the pentiums that much slower than amd. how much faster is a dualcore vs. a single pentium 4. i really just want to know.is it that much more power or is it hype. my primary software is acid 6,with waves, sonic timeworks, urs, and sonalksis plugins. thanx in advance Message last edited on5/24/2006 5:40:19 PM byozzborn. |
