Subject:Recording in ACID using MBox

I've been testing out ACID 6.0, and was getting extrememly frustrated with the delay in the recorded tracks (see previous post). Then I realized, that I could use my MBox to record aodio tracks. The funny thing is it has the exact opposite problem that I was having earlier. All the tracks are placed early in the recording timeline. Any adjustments to latency don't seem to have an effect on either of the problems I'm having. I've always loved using ACID, especially for formulating new song ideas and getting production elements together. At this point, aside from programming my drum loops, I don't see much use in it. I have pro-tools, and usually save it for when I'm going for "keeper" tracks because it's not as quick for capturing ideas on the fly, but with all the problems I have with the newer versions of ACID, I spend most of my songwriting time being frustrated trying to get my tracks to line up. Pro-tools has been completely stable through all it's upgrades. I keep reading all the posts concerning problems like this, and I haven't seen solutions that work. Since I had no problem with versions 2-4, it just can't be a hardware solution. I've gone through every menu and pushed every button in hopes that I just missed something that is new in this version. Nothing seems to work, and in the end, I just waste a bunch of time where I could have been writing music. |

Try out the asio driver at usbaudio.com. It should give you excellent performance with non-Protools software using your Mbox. You can try it for free. You just get periodic silence (or beeps, I don't remember) until you register it. |

Unfortunately, you have chosen two less than optimal interfaces to use with Acid. Soundblaster series cards are notoriously bad for any half-serious audio work and MBox is a Digidesign product - I'm sure they have little interest in supporting anything but their own Protools software very well. Just try the usbaudio.com driver. I use the same driver with a different interface and get 2ms latency (which is pretty amazing for USB). I'll bet you'll get similar results with it. |

Weel, Digidesign has an ASIO driver available, so in theory it could be used with hosts that support ASIO. Although on this page they only mention Acid Pro 4.0: http://www.digidesign.com/download/asio/ Cheers, Randy |
