Hi, I need to move my music library from C: drive to D: drive but I'm worried about media manager not finding thousands of files and what I can do about this. Is there a way to do this so mm can still find the files? I don't want to redo the library because I have too many keywords and other data setup. Thanks for any help!! Rusty |

When you open up a song acid will tell you that they are not at the last location found. A search dialog appears. I forget the wording but in short: 1)Tell acid to do a search. 2)Select the drive where you moved the files to. 3)Click ok and the search begins. 4)The dialog box at the bottom will have the files that you are looking for appear since obviously thats where you put them. Click on one to select it and press ok. 5)Acid will then have another dialog box come up with something to the affect of "look here for filess XXX" or something. Click yes/ok I forget. Now when acid looks for the files it will look at the new location. I've done this twicw already and it works fine. Ed. |

Ed, Thanks so much for replying! I assume that you do not intend that follow your instructions for each loop I have and that what’s supposed to happen is that you do it once and then all the loops are resolved, yes?? I’m following your instructions but step 5 is not coming up and I am having to do it for each loop. I am clicking on a loop in the Media library, getting the message that it can not be found, doing a ‘smart search’ and pointing at the drive where the file has been moved to. It finds it, I click okay and it plays. That’s it. I have Version 5.0c… could this be the difference? Thanks! Rusty |

Rusty, There is no easy way to do this but on my <shameless plug> new VASST Media Manager Demystified training DVD </shameless plug>, ;-) I show you a trick I’ve figured out to fix this. What you want to do is: 1. After you have moved the files to another hard drive go into the Media Manager and select the entire library (use “View All Matching” and Ctrl+A). 2. Then press the Save Tags button. This will cause the Media Manager to display its Resolve Offline Media dialog. 3. Press the Smart Search button and then the Choose Folder button and select the new location of the files. This will force the Media Manager to find the new location. You should note that what Ed told you will still happen. Every single ACID project you have will ask you to search for the media files when you open it. The ACID projects use the file system not the Media Manager to find their media. ~jr Message last edited on5/18/2006 5:43:27 AM byJohnnyRoy. |
