hey guys,

i just downloaded and unzipped a new vst. usually acid recognizes an instrument or effect after this.

in fact, i opened acid right after i extracted all of the vst files and acid did the 'searching for new new plug ins' thing while it was starting.

however, it doesnt show up in my list of vst instruments.

any advice concerning how i can get my new instrument to show up in acid's vst inst. thingy?

thanks,

Justin

Make sure the vst .dll file is installed in the same folder you have AP6 set up to scan for vsts. If not you can add additional folders for AP6 to look at. Most times, vst installs default to Programs/Steinberg/Vstplugins in Windows. I set AP6 up to scan that and other folders such as Programs/Vstplugins. Try that and press rescan. Take that and call me in the morning ;-)

I've had the same problem and yes I know where the vst plug in folders are. I finally found the new plugins by opening the Plug-In Manager or the Plug-In Chooser and looking in the VST folder there. The new VST instruments are treated as an FX plug-in instead of a VST instrument. This only happens to some of the VST instruments for some reason. This never happened before, I believe the Pro 6 has somehow altered the PC's ability to properly recognize all VST instruments.

This is not always true. It depends on the plugin. Some VST Instruments can be used as both an FX and an Instrument. However, when used as an FX, you will not be able to use them for MIDI output.

There is a known issue with scaning of VST Instruments. The work around is as follows:

With ACID NOT running:

run regedit
Locate the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Media Software\ACID Pro\6.0\Metrics\VSTi Synth

and delete it.

Start ACID

This will force ACID to rescan for all VST Instruments at start up.

A future update will address this issue.
