Subject:Re-order the mixer in Pro 6?

Is it possible to re-order the mixer? I've got about 7 VSTi loaded up, but when I now add additional outputs for Kontakt, those outputs end up at the far right of the mixer (end of the list as #8) making it very difficult to keep things organized. I'd like to just re-sort the mixer so I can keep all of the outputs from from various VSTi together.

Also, is there a way to make the fader blocks more narrow? When you get a lot of busses and VSTi output running the mixer doesn't fit on the screen anymore. I looked through the help files but didn't find anything...

Thanks!

Ow that would be so useful. But unfortunately, this is not possible with Acid Pr0 6.

You still can suggest this one in the product suggestion page (clic here).

How do you guys see this one imbeded in Acid ? More like a Drag & Drop interface, as when you're reordering the files in a windows explorer folder manually ?

Doh...total bummer. Hmm, I was thinking of picking up 6, but the lack of some basic features such as this is most likely going to keep me a Cubase SX user. There are some thing I really like about Acid for sure, but I think this coupled with the lack of using assignable effects for VSTi is probably a deal breaker.

Yeah, I was thinking drag-and-drop functionality for the mixer just like how re-arranging the tracks works. The only way I can see doing it now is to save the patches in my other VST's, remove the VSTs from the mixer, add the additional outputs for Kontakt 2 (and hope I have what I want in the future), re-add the other VSTs and re-load their patches, and then re-assign the tracks to them. Blech. :[

I would also like to be able to slim the mixer channels so I can see more on the screen at the same time. Is this possible ?

By "slim" the mixer channels, do you mean vertically or horizontally? You know that you can already drag the limits up and down (and left and right) to make the tracks smaller or larger?

I have been thinking about Acid's mixer layout for a while. At one stage, I thought Sony should implement a Sonar-style popup mixer with a "vertical" layout like a traditional mixer. My one misgiving about this is that like Sonar you would then start destroying the simplicty and clarity of the Acid interface.

Then I bought a new monitor - a flat panel wide screen Benq. I have been thinking about this for a while because I use Cubase SL3 a lot as well, and it really needs a bigger monitor too be comfortably usable. The bigger monitor does wonders for Acid as well.

Ok, so everyone can't rush out and buy a new monitor. You can also start using folder tracks to group similar tracks (say all vocals in the one folder). The big improvement in ACid 6.0 is that you can also put multiple clips on the same track, like in every other DAW, so this reduces screen clutter as well.

I think it is worth learning how to use the new clip pool and thinking about how you organise your workspace with ACid 6.0. If you can afford a bigger monitor (they are pretty cheap now) you might do that as well.

Once you've got a few bussess and a few softsynths, then the mixer panel gets very cumbersome. I'd really like to see at least one of the following fixes:

- Ability to detach softsynths from the mixer
- Ability to reorder the columns so the most used channels displayed first
- Ability to make the strips much thinner

> Ability to detach softsynths from the mixer

This one is possible, as soft synth comes in a dockable window.

For all the other suggestions, I'm wishing it as much as you guys are.

By "ability to detach softsynth from the mixer" I mean just to have a separate detachable panel for the vsti input/output faders that appear in the mixing panel.

What about folders in the mixer section for VSI "s with multi outs ???
It would look like a Bus fader showing all outs mixed together & when you clicked on it it would expand to show all the multi outs resized to fit in the avalable space, click again & it would just show a over all mix of that VSI 's multi outs.
Less space untill you need to see the multi outs .
We need to be able to config the mixer better.
Maybe even a over all VSI storeage folder that contains ALL the VSI busses.
And since im on a roll ... :} how bout a over all folder for all FX"s to !!!
RIBBIT!!

Folder tracks for the mixer ? Interesting idea.

Even a situation where there was just a "folder strip" with no faders would be enough. That way you could drop any channels that you rarely adjusted into it, and so leave the "displayed mixer" for those you always tweak.

So, I revise my wishlist to be at least one of the following:

- Ability to detach softsynths from the mixer
- Ability to reorder the columns so the most used channels displayed first
- Ability to make the strips much thinner
- "Folder strips" to group channels
