Subject:Acid Pro 6.0 and Groove Agent 1 problems

Groove Agent 1.0 seems to enter a feedback loop when I try to record a midi track in Acid Pro 6.0. Has anyone successfully used Groove Agent in Acid Pro 6.0? Groove Agent works perfectly in Acid Pro 4.0.

I understand how to select the midi input and set the midi output to the Groove Agent VSTi instrument. Groove Agent plays fine and responds perfectly to midi info coming from my controller UNTIL I put Acid Pro 6.0 in record mode. Groove Agent then goes nuts and emits a very loud "feedback" sound. I've tried every option for routing midi input and output and double checked all the audio input and output options. To the best of my knowledge, everything is set correctly. I've also tried opening an Acid 4.0 project with Acid 6.0. The project opens fine, but the same feedback sound results.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

It sounds like Groove Agent 1 is echoing MIDI back into ACID.

I don't have Groove Agent 1, but I see that in 2.0 you can have it send MIDI data from its GUI to ACID.

We did identify a problem where some VSTis will echo any MIDI data sent to them back to the host. I am not seeing this with GA 2.0, but perhaps GA 1 is doing this.

Try this:
On the MIDI track(s) you are recording from, select the specific device that you are using to trigger Groove Agent with.

Also, if Groove Agent 1 has a setting to turn MIDI output on/pff. turn it off.

Thank you, Peter. This is an excellent suggestion and I'll try it. I'm certain I've done this, but I'll walk through it just to make sure.

You are correct. Groove Agent 1.0 does have an option to send midi data. The default is off. I switched it on and off and tried again. No difference. In Acid, I selected the specific midi input device to control Groove Agent and tried to record a midi track. Still getting that feedback loop ( I assume that's what it is). I also made sure midi thru was off for that particular track. No effect on the problem.

If it's any help, Nativie Instruments Kontackt works perfectly. There is a huge improvement in latency from Acid 4.0 to Acid 6.0.

I see huge potential in Acid 6, so I'm really anxious to get this problem solved.

Thank you, Peter.

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this problem with GA2.

I am trying to track down a copy of GA1 to see if it is unique.

Perhaps I am missing a step that you are doing. Could you detail - step by step - the easiest way to reproduce this problem. Leave nothing out, no matter how trivial.

Please feel free to email me if you'd prefer.

Thanks,
Peter

Thank you, Peter!

Here goes...

Acid 6.0 is running. Started with a blank project

Edirol UM550 is the USB midi interface.
Outputs:
Device one is routed to another computer running GigaStudio
Device two is routed to another computer running GigaStudio
Device three is routed to Korg Trinity keyboard
Device four is routed to Korg NS5R

Edirol UM550 INPUTS:
Device one disabled
Device two disabled
Device three is routed to receive midi from Korg Trinity keyboard
Device four is disabled
Device 5ive is disabled

M-Audio Delta 1010 and Delta 1010LT are configured as audio in and out. The Delta 1010LT is selected as the default record and playback device using analog channels 1 and 2. Both midi interfaces on the Delta units are disabled from within Acid 6.0.

Right Click in track window. Select add midi track.
Select midi input = Edirol Device Three
Select midi output= Add softsynth = Groove Agent 1.0
Groove Agent is configured NOT to send midi.
Groove Agent is set to output audio on port one for all drums.
Select any style and kit.
Press RUN on Groove Agent module.
Groove Agent plays perfectly and responds to midi input from Trinity keyboard on Device three. Using keyboard keys C4 and up can trigger fills and pattern changes without difficulty.
Press STOP on Groove Agent module.
Put Midi Track in record mode in Acid 6.0.
Press Ctrl R to put Acid in record mode.
Recording begins.
Acid records at the correct tempo and all is well UNTIL...
Press any key on keyboard (C4 and above) to start Groove Agent pattern and immediately Groove Agent goes into the feedback loop. This results in LOUD noise which is full spectrum. The controls on Groove Agent begin to flash and there is a constant "fill" being activated.
Press B3 on keyboard and Groove Agent stops. Noise stops.
Any and all notes played on the keyboard are accurately recorded by Acid during this process.
Stop Acid recording.
Trigger Groove Agent without recording, all is well.
Rewind to project beginning.
Put Acid into 'Play' mode by pressing the space bar.
When activated by the midi start note, Groove Agent goes into the feedback loop.

I'll keep checking here, Peter. Thank you for your kind attention and superb responses.

I can not open in Acid Pro 6.0 a song that I did with Groove Agent and Virtual Bassist. I use the "lite" versions of both programs that come in the Steinberg Studio Case II. This song opens perfectly with Acid Pro 5.0

A couple of pages back I mentioned serious noise in 6.0 from the Groove Agent SE VSTi on a project built in 5.0. I case you missed it.

Standing by here...

Peter, hope you're able to get GA 1. I'm stuck on not buying software that requires a dongle, so will think long and hard before upgrading to Groove Agent 2.

Thank you!
