Hi,
I'm completely newbie in this MIDI-thing. I just bought 2'nd hand M-Audio Axiom 25 MIDI-keyboard and I've been trying to set it up with Acid 6. I got all the basics (i.e. the keys and such) to work but Acid won't recognize all the other goodies in the keyboard such as rotary knobs and transport control keys (play, record, rewind, etc).

Is there any way to a) make acid learn what it should do when I press some key and/or b) to get a complete list of those MIDI codes Acid understands?

With the keyboard also came Ableton Live 5.2, which does not either seem to understand everything in this keyboard. After trying the app for a while and then firing up Acid was like a homecoming to me. Working keyboard or not ;)

The knobs on the keyboard can be used to control VSTi’s (i.e., Soft Synths). How you do this is very specific to the VSTi that support this. Arturia VSTi’s (ARP 2600 V, Moog Modular V, etc.) have an excellent implementation where you can tell it to learn and turn a knob and it learns what knob that is. ACID will then record these knobs as you play to make for some really nice dynamic performances.

These knobs can also be used to control ACID BUT... you can no longer use the device as a MIDI Keyboard! This is because ACID surface control will lock the MIDI port as being a control surface and not allow it for MIDI input. So you cannot use it for both MIDI recording and control of ACID. If you want to play with this use Tools > Preferences > External Control & Automation to set up your keyboard as a control service. Again, you won’t be able to use it to play MIDI if you do this. Those knobs are really for controlling soft synths in real-time.

Thanks Johnny. Not having any other VSTi's except what comes with Acid I'll probably just try to experiment with those.
