I am contemplating buying a workstation for remote recording (like the tascam 2488) and later transferring the file to my laptop for processing with sf8. I usually record at higher (>44.1) sample rates if I am using my laptop and sf8, and later resample to 16 bit, 44.1 after working on the sound file. Question is, the tascam 2488 only records at 44.1 at 24 bit. I thought you were supposed to record at higher sample rates prior to processing the file. What do you think of the tascam 2488 as a basic recorder with later processing with sf8? |

You can go the the tascam 2488 forums to get lots more opinions - http://www.tascamforums.com/ However, I use the 2488 to do location recording, then edit in Sound Forge. |

There is no requirement, and only debatable claims as to benefits of recording at higher sample rates. What you propose is just fine ! geoff |
