Folks, having a hard time finding some 5/4 time drum loops. Experiented with slicing other loops in to 5 beats but was not happy. What do you do to get an odd meter loop? |

There are some loops on Bill Bruford's sample CD, but probably not enough for you. I think there are a couple of other sample CDs with odd time sig loops on them, but I can't remember off the top of my head (I'm at work on the day job right now). You could slice a 4/4 loop intwo, then join it to a 3/4 loop, but this will sound unnatural - not what a real drummer would play. The best way would be to build some yourself using MIDI or single hits. I have done music in 7/4 and 5/8 in the past using my own loops. It is worth going to the nearest music store and buying a drummer's book on odd time sigs - this will give you ideas for making it sound realistic. |

The Sony Jazz Traps CD has a folder with 28 5-4 loops. You can download one free loop from Sony's page here: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/loop_libraries/showloop.asp?SPID=217 |

Thanks everyone for the tips. Also was intrtoduced to several neat tools that I am looking into: Stylus RMX fxpansion GURU Booth pretty cool VSTi plugins for creatin drum loops. I tried the Guru demo and got what I needed for the 5/4 loop I needed. |
