I couldn't believe it meself but it runs smoothly on Vista Beta 2 built 5308 except one peculiar bug.The Fx work fine ,havent tried any Vstis yet ( More on Vstis in my next post ). The bug i ran into though i would have never guessed it could happen with Acid . All dockable windows behave fine . One window though, cannot be displayed no matter how hard i tried .The Explorer window .. ( lol ) .Looks like MS has changed quite a lot the Windows Explorer .Any insight on this from anyone? Also b4 i forget this ,is Acid Pro 64 bit anywhere in the works plz?
Installation machine is Shuttle XPC ,Intel P4 Northwood 3.2 ghz on Intel Socket 478,Intel 875 chipset, Asus Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb,1gb ram,2x 250gb WD ultra ata drives,Eizo L568 17". Poor mans virtual Asio driver Asio4All runs fine on the onboard AC97. Vista's Aero Interface runs fine and i really love the way Acid Pro 6 looks with the Aero graphx. Very funky indeed.
PS:now if i only could get this msn 7.5 to run i d be a happy man ...oooopss ,wrong forum :-))

Phew! People are already trying ACID on WinVista. When Vista arrives I think I'm going to be like one of those Win98 throwbacks who stuck to what they knew.

Isn't Vista going to be a bit of a resource hog? That's what worries me... :(

My aforementioned installation machine was rated 3 on a scale 1-10 by the Vista's inbuilt Performance Rating wizard. This alone says a little about what machines its ment to be used with... Vista itself consumes about 500mb ram and about 10gb disk space. But honestly i believe that its not a matter of recources.Vista is simply ment to be used with high end machines. All Windows experts agree that Vista isnt the bomb we were all hearing it's going to be when Longhorn project started ,still its a major upgrade towards win Xp with features like much more clever searches,hi def graphics, and much more sofisticated win explorer ,native dvd/cd burning, a more robust approach on crashing software and many more ,and of course it looks quite a lot like MacOSX ( i had to say this lol ) .Cheers all :-)

You will definitely be amongst the smart folks who

1. Stick with XP (cause it just works)
2. Already know that Vista is an overblown hype machine (cause it is)
3. Will be saving gobs of coin by not buying a whole new machine (cause you absolutely have to if you really want to run Vista properly).

In the grand scheme of things - will your music sound any better? For me - I try and put the actual OS/hardware as far into the background as I can and concentrate on the process of making music.

I am sure that I will most certainly be tempted by Vistas curves at some point...but FWIW - some of my best studio collegues haven't moved past Win 2000 yet - and it hasn't slowed their output or creativity down one bit.

Cheers!

... and maybe someday we can just run Mac OSX and be done with Microsoft once and for all. It’s a shame Apple doesn’t realize they have an opportunity to steal the desktop from Microsoft now that OSX runs on Intel.

I just can't relate to that. I think the MacOS GUI is horrendous. It seems to have a lot of flash and bloat and just simply take more clicks to get things done. Whenever i use a Mac i feel like i have to keep pushing the GUI out of my way. In my opinion Microsoft got it way more right than Apple did.

Yea, but Mac OSX saw the light and is based on Unix which is pretty lean and mean. Microsoft’s OS’s aren’t nearly as robust as Unix. I’ve been running Linux since 1995 (Slackware) and I would take that over XP any day of the week.

Oh, i agree that Unix-based OSses are great. I use RedHat for all my servers. I had the same complaints about some of the earlier *nix GUIs too in that they were flashy and visually bloated. More recent releases of KDE are much trimmer and more usable. Heck, they've got a "Redmond" skin that makes your *nix desktop look and behave pretty much exactly like classic Windows. So, if i could get a skin like that for the MacOS that not only looked like Windows, but behaved like it too, then i might consider it.

What it comes down to is that even though i understand the technical underpinnings and benefits of MacOSX, i only have to deal with them when something goes wrong. The GUI, on the other hand, i deal with every time i press a key or move/click the mouse. Mac's GUI just gets too tedious to be worth the effort.

It seems like OSX's theme is based on the White color, whereas Vista's theme will be based on the Black color (which is slicker imo).

Everything I buy if it's computer related, is black, and it's very elegant ^^. Anyway, that's just the look, nothing else.

What about those Screenshots ? I would really like to see how Acid looks like dressed in Aero ^^
