Whenever I zoom in or out, or scroll tracks up and down, make tracks deeper etc, I get a crackling sound. I've selected the "use slower updates" option, but this hasn't made any effect. I'm on a P4 3GHz with 2Gb RAM, and the system shouldn't be stressed. The video card is an AGP Matrox 550 with the latest drivers. Any thoughts ? |

For the time being, try going into the Preferences|Audio Device tab and uncheck "Enable track buffering" and click "Apply". This is a known issue, on some systems, and wil be fixed in the ACID 6a update. Cheers, Billy Buck |

Hopefully the buffer setting will fix your problem. I had a similar issue with my brand new computer a few months ago - clicking and a gaps during playback when zooming and moving about on the screen. It turned out the problem arose from my onboard graphics controller which shared video ram from main memory. I put in a cheap NVidia MX4000 based graphics card and I have been completely free of problems since. So, I would definitely look at trying other graphics cards if you can. Cheers, Randy |

Thanks for the tip. I deselected the "track buffering" option and the clicks are gone. As for the Matrox 550, it's an absolute rock so far as everything else is concerned so am very reluctant to consider changing it. I've also updated my profile with PC specs. :-) Loving AP6 |

I was a bit hasty in my reply. Seems it's helped a lot, but not entirely fixed things... |

Thanks Shtunot. An extra little bit of info: The crackling seems to get worse the longer I work. But it's definitely not a RAM or CPU issue - the task manager shows 1.4Gb RAM still free and the CPU hardly gets out of the teens. |

Just for giggles, have you tried turning video acceleration off? If it works then, it could be your card's drivers. I remember a version of ATI's video card drivers that worked fine with everything else except Madison Media's apps; it was fixed by an update from ATI. Hyperthreading was already turned off, but good suggestion... I disabled "hardware acceleration" on the display, but if anything it has made the problem worse. Zooming seems OK, but moving the scollbars, or changing the track height makes it crackle like a 1950s geiger counter :-( |

You might try flashing your G550 BIOS with the latest from the Matrox site. http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/bios/home2.cfm Here are some folk discussing problems with the G550: http://forum.cakewalk.com/printable.asp?m=729563 Good luck. Randy |

I thought my drivers were up to date, but obviously not. The latest driver release has so far resulted in zero crcakling :-) Thanks |

And I'm still getting bad crackling but only in some sessions ( but in the same project). I can't pin down why I'm sometimes getting it and sometimes not.... What the driver update DID solve was crackling during zooming. Now I just get it sometimes when using the scrollbars. |

That card is at least half-decade old. You may need something with a good 2D driver implementation to see if it alleviates your problem. Find a good computer shop in your area that will let you experiment with different graphics cards. Cheers, Randy |

Im running a ATI Radeon 9550 256 meg card . Everytime i move the gui my cpu useage jumps to 100%. Ive loaded the latest drivers , tryed some of the tweeks with no luck. Do all ATI cards have this prob??? This does not happen with anyother programs. |

i was using a ati radeon 9600 256mb first and i had the troubles with crackling aswell... then i bought some nvidia card because i was thinking ati is the cause of the problem. but i got exactly the same issue with the nvidia card... finally i disabled hyperthreading in bios and the crackling was gone. i only experience crackling when using a big project with a lot of fx used... and then i can raise the audio card latency to get rid of it. |
