I've been using Acid Pro for over a year and now have version 6. So I'm not a complete newbie. I have installed and registered the Kompakt samplers. But I have never figured out how to open them up! How does one access the Kompakt samplers from within Acid? There is ZERO documentation about this. I don't see them listed in the Preferences dialog under VST effects, VST instruments, or Rewire devices. And how does one access the Kompakt samplers alone? All I find in my installed directories is a series of *.nki files, which are not associated with anything. Can someone please get me started? There isn't a shred of instruction anywhere about this. |

What surprise? The only thing there is install.log In another unrelated folder, I found a PDF manual for it. But it doesn't answer the basic questions: 1) How to get Kompakt listed as a VST instrument (took me over an hour of searching online to find the answer) 2) How to hear it once it's installed (still can't figure that out) 3) How to record with it in Acid (can't figure that out) The documentation is ZERO for how to install Kompakt into Acid and to get it to even function. Since I am unable to get it to function, then the PDF manual is totally useless. |

Dear feing, First ckeck that the file Kompakt Sony ACID ProVST.dll is in the Preferences/Vst instruments default Vsti search folder, if it is not the case search for this file in your pc and copy it there. Now load ACID. To load a VSTi instrument you have to read Acid Pro 6 manual, so you can load it clicking on Insert menu/soft synth... Acid will display softsynth chooser dialog. Select Kompakt and click OK. Kompakt interface will show you, then Click on 1:empty slot down arrow and select the instrument you want to play. Close Kompakt interface and Insert a midi track now you can record, insert or edit a midi clip. Hope this help you! Message last edited on4/28/2006 1:51:44 AM bymiquel. |

THANK YOU! You said in a few simple words what the documentation should have said at the very beginning. Your advice worked perfectly. |

here's one for then: i'm using an evolution controller for midi. i have no problem pulling up kompact. but when i use my midi controller, the keyboard will press the virtual keys, but no sound will issue out. if i use the mouse, i get sound and key depression though. note if i use the cheezy NI stuff that came bundled with acid 5, my evolution controller works just fine still in acid 6. however kompact = depressed vitual keys, no sounds. good grief sony, did you get anything right this time? |

"good grief sony, did you get anything right this time?". Kompakt works fine. Just because you can't get it right in 5 minutes, you think that Sony has made a mistake! Sounds like you haven't loaded a sample into Kompakt. What happens if you use the mouse to press the virtual keys in Kompakt? If you get nothing, that suggests you haven't loaded a sample parch. |

Don't blame Sony for this one. I had the exact same issue. Check the "Multi" window on the Kompakt screen in the top left corner. About five lines down from the Save button you will see a MIDI plug icon. This is the key. You have to set this to Omni or the appropriate channel. It's totally counter-intuitive that the keyboard graphic appears to play the note but you hear no sound. Just bad user interface design on NI's part. Cheers, Randy |

sparrow: from the kompakt manual "KOMPAKT offers flexibility and compatibility unlike any other software sampler. KOMPAKT can import sound file formats from , AKAI S-1000/S-3000, EXS, HALion, SF2, LM4, Gigasampler and of course, AIFF, WAV and SDII files with resolutions from 8 to 32 bits are supported as well." Click on browse button and navigate around your disks. Then drag and drop the sound files in to the slots. PS. Please, manuals were made to read them. :) Message last edited on4/30/2006 11:40:33 AM bymiquel. |

Thanks for the additional information on importing files from other areas of the computer into Kompakt. By the way I love to read manuals, but Kompakt did not come with one, or if it did I can not fine it...do you know where it is? Is it on the CD? On their web site? On Sony's web site...?I can trade you for say an older manual? thanks again.. sparrow |

Sparrow: Search for a file on your computer called Kompakt_Sony.pdf That's the manual. Of course, it is very sparse, and it assumes that you already know how to set up and use the program, and that you know all the obscure jargon. But it is a manual. Doesn't help me much, but you might be smarter than I am. |

This seems related to the problem I'm having... (I'm fairly good with computers but am a newbie when it comes to recording software.) I have the Kompakt Sony ACID ProVST.dll file in my default VSTi folder, and nothing shows up on the soft synth list. If I set the VST default folder to the same location and hit Refresh, it says "Loading Kompakt Sony ACID ProVST.dll" and then nothing shows up in the list. When I hit Refresh under the VSTi preferences, nothing seems to happen and the list remains empty. Any advice? "Basic" solutions that I might have missed? Thanks... |

Re: not seeing Kompakt as softsynth: Check out this thread: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=1&MessageID=453180 I was having problems with another plugin not showing and removing the registry key mentioned in the thread solved the problem. Cheers, Randy |
