Subject:So far so good, except tracking issue...

I am running into a problem I do not recall having in the past.
I often track live instruments into my project, starting at the top and then repeating a section that I have selected. In the past I could do this easily, but it seems now I am only recording the selected loop section.
In other words, instead of getting a whole performance from the top through the looped part, I am basically "punching in" like us old people used to do before we could edit so easily.

Is this the way its gonna be or is there a workaround for what I want to do?

Other than that, Acid 6 simply "feels" better. I can't put my finger on it yet, but something is very right with this effort.

Hmm, do you have loop playback enabled when you record?

If so, what's happening is that your recording is being split up into clips each time it makes a complete pass in the Loop Region. You can see the list of clips by clicking the "paint clip selector" button or going into the clip pool.

If you go into a particular clip's clip properties, it will tell you what part of the recording that clip was culled from (denoted by green markers labeled, "Record Clip x," where "x" is the clip number).

Yes, I do, which is what I want. I want to play the whole tune and then when it gets to the loop part, create clips of improv meanderings.
I can do this in passes but its just an extra step.

But right now it seems I am just recoring the loop section.

Are you speaking of MIDI tracks?
I find this issue a bit of a hassle also. The MIDI tracks don't behave like Audio tracks - when you record a looped section of audio, it can be continuous, whereas the MIDI notes will cut off at the loop boundries.

Is there a switch somewhere to get the MIDI recording to behave like in Acid5?

N3gative. Audio tracking.
I am just getting my MIDI feet wet in 6 today. So far its very intuitive. The controls are all where I expect to find them. I am sure little issues will arise.
The issue you propose seems like a hard one to solve. Maybe some sort of "merge take to single clip" would solve that?
I run into a similar issue involving loop tails all the time in midi OR audio, where I find a nice section that uses several loops. I want to copy and paste that section, all contents, except that there is a snare tail that hangs over the section end. If I grab the snare with all the other parts, then paste-fill will not match to my grid lines because each paste will start after the snare tails off, not on the beat.

I noticed that when recording audio tracks as beatmapped tracks (set in Options>Audio>ACID type for recorded tracks) that they will be seperated as clips. If you want to be able to grab the edge and extend the recording out to it's full length, then you need to switch the "type" to be "one-shot"
