Subject:MIDI Patch Change Broken - Triton EX

I am using the USB MIDI connection on my Korg Triton Extreme. I can record MIDI notes in ACID 6.0 just fine, and I can manually enter program changes in ACID's Clip Editor window, and they change programs on the Triton just as they should.

But if I change patches on my Triton while I am recording, ACID records the event as 4 consecutive "Control Change" messages, with Data 1 values of 80/81/80/81. It does not recognize the event as a program change. This is a major pain. However, it DOES reset the Triton to preset A0 when I stop recording or rewind (which i DO NOT want it to do).

ACID has the same problem when I use the standard MIDI input jack, and the Triton works fine in Sonar.

Is this just broken? Any ideas would be appreciated. ACID is USELESS as a MIDI recorder if it can't record program changes and if it resets to A0 each time I stop.

The Clip List Editor is not the place to control program changes. You should control all program changes from the time line with either the track program selector or track program change keyframes.

Have you created a program change mapping template for the Triton or are you using the one supplied with ACID?

"ACID records the event as 4 consecutive "Control Change" messages"

Where is this displayed?
What are the specific controller msg numbers?
Are Program Change keyframes recorded on the track?

Preset A0 :
Sounds like there is a track keyframe that is using
Program 0 : Bank 0:0

Thank you for the quick response.

To be clear, all I want to do is:

1. Insert a MIDI track.
2. Arm the track.
3. Hit the Record transport control.
4. Play the Triton.
5. Record what I play on the Triton, including any program changes I make.
6. After I record the track, I want ACID to play back what I just recorded, including the program changes.

If I do this, ACID puts a little purple rectangle along a thin purple line at the bottom of the track -- one tiny rectangle every time I hit a program change on my Triton. When I got to Clip Properties -> List Editor, ACID seems to think that my program changes were some oddball control changes (the Message column says "Control Change" and the Data 1 column says either "80" or "81." Data 2/3/4 are all "0"). These events coincide with the exact times that I hit a program change on my Triton.

It does drop little red Program Change diamonds on the keytrack, but not a 1:1 relationship to where I hit program changes on the Triton. Sometimes they will correspond with a program change from the Triton, sometimes they will appear and disappear. When I right click on the diamonds, it shows a program number, but usually not the one I selected. It seems to be getting scrambled. When I play back the track back, it does jump to the program number that corresponds to the keytrack diamond -- albeit not the one I actually pressed.

It records and plays back notes, aftertouch, etc. just fine. It's only program changes that are problematic. Like I said, it works the same if I use the standard MIDI jacks, and it works fine in Sonar.

Is there some combination of checkboxes I need to select in order to get this to work? I've spent hours and hours on this, and there's this -->||<-- much between ACID being either perfect or useless for me.

Thanks for the help.
