I'm trying to figure out how to add my video track to the ACID timeline so that I can add music to sequence with the video. I use VEGAS for my video. The help says to open the Explorer Window and just drag it. But the Explorer Window in ACID doesn't disply my movie files. Also, what format does it want the video in (.veg, .mpg)? I know how to do this in Sound Forge, but I can't figure it out in ACID.

I just tried this successfully with a DV .avi file, an MPEG file, and also a WMV file. I simply dragged them from the explorer window to ACID's timeline. If you drag to an empty area (below your existing tracks) then ACID paints the entire audio waveform (if your video file contains audio). If you drag to an existing audio track then the standard ACID paintbrush method must be used to draw the waveform. A .veg file won't work.

I open the Explorer window. I click on the folder where the file is located, but nothing appears in the screen to the right. It's like the folder is empty (even though it's not). The file is in .mpg format. I understand what the help and you're saying, but it's not working.

There's a little dropdown box in the upper right corner of the explorer window for "View". Make sure this is set for All Files. With that off you might only see audio files.

I happened to find that menu right after my last post. Yes, it did display the file, but it said that it was an usupported format. It's rendered as an mpg2 file. Maybe it only accepts mpg1 files. I guess I'll try rendering to that to see if it makes a difference.

Hmm. ACID does have support for MPEG-2 files but the MainConcept plug-in is needed, which you already have due to Vegas (otherwise you'd have to purchase the plug-in separately).

Can you render to MPEG-2 within ACID?

I can render as an .avi or .wmv file, but not .mpg. So I'm assuming it doesn't support .mpg files. I have ACID Music Studio and not the Pro, so maybe there's a difference. I will try rendering my original Vegas file to .avi and try that.

ACID Music Studio 6 reads and renders MPEG2’s just fine for me and I am using Vegas too so something is not right with your setup. Are you using Vegas or Vegas Movie Studio? What version of ACID Music Studio? That may be the difference.

I have ACID Music Studio 5 and Vegas+DVD 4 (Full version, not the Movie Studio).

Vegas 4 definitely comes with an MPEG2 codec but I’m not sure if ACID Music Studio 5 will use it. (I don’t have Music Studio 5 on my PC to test with) I know the jump to ACID Music Studio 6 added a whole bunch of new capabilities that weren’t in 5 so that may be the difference.

Actually which format you use is not that critical. Render to a scummy .wmv file if you want. All you really need in ACID is a visual timing reference. When you're done scoring you are going to return to Vegas for the final renders anyway.
