Subject:Pro 6 : Pitch Bend not handled ?

Try this :

- Create a blank project
- Insert a MIDI clip
- Show the Clip properties (piano roll)
- Insert some notes (2 bars, for example)
- Draw a pitch bend curve (in the piano roll, below the notes)
- Play the clip from the Clip Properties window : the pitch bend effect should be heard
- Now, play the project from the main window : the pitch bend is not heard

Same issue with Modulation, Expression, Pan (and probably other controllers too).

Have I done something wrong ? Or is it a bug ?

The clip editors - Piano Roll and List Editor - are for editing the clips. The only thing we link directly to the time line is the note data.

ACID's main timeline controls all CC, PB, AT using envelopes.

In order for you PB edits in the Piano Roll to appear on the time line you must import them onto the time line as envelopes. To do this you click on the event on a track and select "Create Envelope from Clip". This will merge ALL CC, PB, and AT data on to the track. From that point forward you should use envelopes or keyframes to manipulate the data.

So the preferred method is to paint or record PB at the track level using envelopes. With the new freehand envelope paint tool, this makes it possible to get very accurate envelopes.

This seems to be a common point of confusion. I understand how it works, but it would be nice if there were some cues, warnings, or something.

The most surprising thing is that a clip auditioned in the clip view sounds completely different than the same clip in the track. This is rather counter-intuitive and I expect you will continue to see a lot of people struggling with this.

Cheers,

Randy

I agree. We are discussing this internally to see if we can resolve this and make it more apparent what is what.

The problem with just always updating the time line with CC edits is that if multiple track level events use the same clip, then all of the events would have the envelopes around them changed. So, if you have a piano riff that you use in 5 different places, but you have different volume envelopes around the events on the time line and then you edit the volume CC msgs in the Piano roll, you now loose all of the envelopes you painted in on the main time line.

The Clip Piano Roll and List editor are generally to narrow of a context in relation to the main time line. The main time line is where you edit your ACID song. The clip editors are focused in their context and for many reasons don't get all of their changes reflected onto the timeline.

Again, we are looking into some tweaks to make this work a bit smoother.

Yes, it is a bit of a conundrum.

I'm confident you guys will figure something out!

Cheers,

Randy
