Subject:AP6 test drive results-some Q's

Hello to all:

I have been test driving AP6 and was wondering if anyone else noticed the following behavior:

1) Noted some studder in the audio engine while playing back a song and resizing the track heights and widths. (It doesn't do it
on every track of every AP5 song...only some. Maybe it doesn't like
some plugins on a particular track. I dunno. They all loaded without a problem. But there still may be some).

2) Also noticed there is a button in the "Customize Tool Bar" menu that says: "Wait MIDI In" that has the record button with the Pause symbol over it. But It doesn't do anything!

Can anyone confirm these?

Thanks

Rahman

Hello Rahman,

1) Could be a video driver issue. Did you try updating to the latest supported drivers for your video card or turning off video acceleration?

What's you basic system specs?

2) I don't see a "Wait MIDI In" but I do see a "Wait for Input" button with the same symbols you mentioned. Is that what you were referring to?

thanks mD:

System:

1) I'm using a dell 8600 laptop, 2GHz, P-M, 1 GB RAM, 7200rpm internal drives. Interface is Echo Layla 2496 (or Indigo if mixing
away from home). My Echo drivers and video drivers have played
nice with each other and have never been a problem before.
Also, AP5 was/is very smooth. no problems.

2) Sorry, it is "Wait for Input". I ass-u-me-d this was for midi input.
even if its for audio it didn't do anythind when pressed:

I figured it would do what it says: wait for an input souce, then go into record mode and start recording. Also, there is no mention of it's functionality in the manual or in help menu. So I'm trying to figure out if this will be a future function for "next time" or a forgotten function for "this time"?

any help would be appreciated.

hello to all:

Hi mD:

I think I found the problem with the studdering during adjustment of track heights. (Found in another forum thread described as "GUI stutter problem).

The fix was to uncheck the "track buffering" box in preferences menu.

Only thing is still don't know what " wait for input " does???

thanks

Nothing. The custom tool bar editor didn't get this removed. Just slipped through the cracks.

FWIW:
Wait for Input was to be a mechanism to control how MIDI recording was started. (PTools, the old Vision, and other sequencers have this if you are curious to investigate what it would do.)

The feature was not completed for ACID 6 and was cut.(No, it will not be returning for ACID 6 updates. Sorry)

What can I say. I missed removing it. Annoying and embarrassing, but not a showstopper.

The work around : Don't add it to the tool bar. It doesn't do anything - other than take space on your tool bar.
