Subject:NEW ACID 6.0 - audio doesn't sync

I upgraded from pro 4.0. When I record a new track, it's a little off from the beat. It's not in sync, and it's not me. I have used 4.0 pro for years trouble free. Any ideas how to tweak this? |

Please fill out your system details in your profile, and also tell us what audio driver type you're using. - Nick |

I set both my versions of 4.0 and 6.0 to record at 44k 16 bit. No problems in 4.0, but in 6.0 my recorded audio track doesn't sync up, it's a little late. |

What driver are you using? Does your soundcard have a ASIO driver? |

Yes, are you using the ASIO drivers? DirectSound? Classic Wave? - Nick |

Don't know, and don't know how to find out. |

I'm getting exactly the same thing here. I'm using the wave drivers with a Pulsar II. |

Under Options/Pref. - Audio Device, I have Microsoft Sound Mapper selected, just like I have in my 4.0 pro version. Seems like I had this problem years ago in ACID but I don't know how I solved it. |

Sorry to sound like an echo midiaxer, but I had the same problem in 4 too :-) I solved it by moving to Sonar. This time though 6 has so many other good things I can live with it for now. |

TRy some of the different driver options in Preferences, preferably an ASIO driver if there is one. If there is no ASIO driver available with your soundcard, try downoading and installing the latest version of ASIO4ALL, then select it as the driver. See if this makes a difference. |

I have had this issue with all builds of Acid 4.0 except Acid 4.0a build 237 which I have used problem free for 2 years. I tried Acid 5.0 build 265...same problem...I just tried Acid 6.0 build 214 Trial...same issue...very annoying...someone please help!!! |

I have found that anything other than an ASIO driver means latency, not just in synching to existing tracks, but even getting "instant" response when playing notes on my midi controller keyboard. With Classic Wave drivers, the note sounds a fraction of a second after I hit the keys, which makes it pointless. As soon as I select an ASIO driver, everything is tight again. |

This is not Acid's fault. Classic Wave drivers are simply not designed for low latency audio responses. ASIO is, however. This is the same for any audio application you'll use. The legacy audio drivers are there for people that have to use consumer-level sound devices. ASIO4All, as mentioned previously, is a nice alternative if your manufacturer doesn't provide ASIO drivers for you. Creative provides them for most of their devices, but the kX Project is still a great alternative for that as well. If you want professional, sample accurate recordings and low latency MIDI response times, you need to use ASIO. There's just no way around it. - Nick |

What other Audio Device Types do you have available? The Mapper is like Windows' audio switchboard, so while it works with Acid, it performs terribly. Also, do you have "Automatically detect and offset for hardware recording latency" checked? - Nick |

I have very good ASIO drivers wiuth the Pulsar II card, but they're in use with other audio apps. I like Acid because it performs so well (comparatively) on wave drivers. I'll just live with it :-) |

The generic overlay ASIO4ALL driver at asio4all.com works really well and will fix problems with soundcards that have trouble syncing audio with the correct amount of realignment delay, at least it did for me. |

I'll just live with it :-) Try unchecking the "automatically detect and offset" option that Nick mentioned and play with the "user recording latency offset" setting immediately underneath. First , I downloaded the ASIO4ALL drivers. Then I went to Creative.com and updated my soundcard drivers. Under Options/Audio Device, I select ASIO4ALL as the audio device type. It assigns my SB Audigy 2 Audio as a default playback and recording device. So far, so good. I have my project audio properties set to 48 Hz, 24 bit. Overdubs are in sync and sound good. Hope they stay that way. (crossing fingers) Thank you everyone for your help and inputs. |

Midiaxer is happy and I can now report my problem solved as well. A little fiddling and experimenting with the latency offset (as kindly suggested by mD) has got my recordings in perfect sync again. Thanks ! This forum is just fantastic. Hope to return the favor sometime. Message last edited on4/11/2006 7:07:29 PM byalltheseworlds. |
