Hi, I'm sure this is old news, but count me in as one of the many hardcore loyal users of Acid since 1.x days. I swear by it. But with Acid 6.0, I just swear AT it. Intel 3.4ghz, 1GB, Gigabyte 8ki1100 m/b, Adapatec 1420 raid Mirror SATA2 250gb WD drives, Motu 2408 mkIII and 2408 mkII = XP sp2 fully patched DirectX 9.0c I have about 12 Vstis, Native Instruments express, Linplug, Sonic Synth2, wusik. Nothing weird, nothing, ahem, not paid for thats supposed to be paid for. Background: Acid 5.0 and Vegas 6.0 and Soundforge 8.0d work just fine. Problem: Acid 6.0 installs fine with or without the dreaded media manager, but when trying to execute application, crashes every single time at the point where VSTis are enumerated. Looks like it gets about 50% of them but doesnt indicate a name before the "Encountered an Error" OS popup occurs. Attempts to correct: Went through each VSTi one by one, uninstalled, launced acid 6, watched it crash, went on to the next VSTi uninstall, etc. Uninstalled all, didnt help. Renamed vstplugins folder. Acid 6.0 just crashes faster. researched over at KVR: suggestions included uninstalling .Net Framework 2.0, which I did. Still crashes. Suggested removing all VSTPlugin folders, which I did. Still crashes, just faster. Tried installing Acid 6.0 on different partition. No difference. started crying. Through out all this, Acid 5.0 and Vegas and SoundForge work great. I would appreciate any ideas on how to proceed. |

What error message are you getting? If you can, paste the entire contents here so we can see what's causing the problem. - Nick |

Try this: While ACID is NOT running: Locate the file in your Sony install dir: sfvstwrap.dll Rename it to sfvstwrap.foo or move it to another location on your harddrive. Start ACID: If everything is ok, then the problem is with scanning of VST FX plugins If you still crash, restore this dll and locate Sony\ACID Pro 6.0\MIDI Drivers\sfvstisynth.dll and rename it to sfvstisynth.foo or move it to another location. Start ACID If ACID launches corretly, then a VST Instrument is causing the problem. If neither procedure solves the problem do both steps above and start ACID. (This completely removes any VST FX and VST Instrument support.) ACID should start. Let me know how this works. Peter |

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I tried both suggestions. Neither did the trick, though there was at least some change. 1. after renaming sfvstwrapper.dll, I started Acid 6 and it crashed in the same spot as it had before. No difference. I renamed it and tried the next suggestion 2. after renaming sfvstisynth.dll, I started Acid 6 and it crashed right after enumerating the Sony DLS synth. I corrected the file name and Acid crashed as it had before, after enumerating my VSTis, and halting for about 5 secs at "scanning vsti folder" et al. 3. If you rename/move both dlls, you still crash then? Peter |

Sounds like you are having the same problem as: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=450155&Replies=40 We don't have a solution either. Renaming either or both these dll's does not fix the problem for me either. Message last edited on4/10/2006 1:22:41 PM byjcoplin. |

I tried that, Peter, and it didnt work either. I even went so far as to rename all the .dlls in the midi drivers folder as well as the wrapper.dll but it just caused the application to crash immediately after the scan started. In the meantime I am able to use Acid 5.0 for an important project this week so I'm not dead in the water, but you can imagine how excitement turned to disappointment. If not for the project, I'm considering formatting and reloading XP sp2 with a minimal load of DirectX9c, .net 1.1 w/service pack and then loading Acid 6.0 on top of th eclean install. I rely very heavily on the program and cant imagine why all the hassle as I have never had problems with SF/Sony softs since day one and my platform has been stable for awhile and I try hard to keep it that way. Since I administer networks for a living I know how this stuff goes. Patience wins out if Support keeps talking to you :-) |

Since both the VST FX and VST Instruments code is disabled by moving/renaming these two dlls, then the problem is not related to VSTs. Something else is causing this. Have you tweaked your system using any of the "tweak" that are on the web? Did you permit Media Manager and the MS SQL to install to completion? Peter |

I'm not sure what you mean by "tweaks" so I'm going to assume no as I try to run my audio box as close to vanilla as possible for the exact reason you are alluding to. i ran the full install (several times as I've tried various clean uninstall/install cycles) so I'm assuming that went well. I didn't get any error message. How would I check this? Also, since I already had MS SQL installed for another app, how would the Acid installer handle this? Are you hinting that Media Manager and SQL Server type stuff is what happens after the VST install? |

No tweaks, though I always put the swap file and Data on a drive seperate from the System drive. On this machine I have a raid system drive. Data stored on a Second Data Drive. Acid Loops and misc on a third drive. Always have run it like that. Yes I have let the media Manager run to completion but made no difference. I have reinstalled 3x with and without the media manager. As jcoplin has conjectured, there really does appear to be a bug in the way that this version of Acid handles .dlls it doesnt like or handles memory scheduling in a way that forces windows to shut the App down before allowing system instability. But Brainstorming is usually the only way this stuff gets fixed, so I appreciate the feedback immensely. |

Funny you mentioned that. Yes. And I made them disappear. and... I upgraded my video Card driver and then deleted my User profile. I logged back in, repopulated my new profile. I uninstalled Acid 6.0 and then installed it completely. I removed all Vstis from the drive. Success!!!! Yeah!!!!! I put three of the Vsts back in, and the mailman had also brought My Kompakt Disc today. I installed that and then carefully added back all the vsts I absolutely must have including my UAD-1 card. Perfect. Runs absolutely perfectly. The error seems to have been video memory allocation and some corrupted dlls. Thank you very much for your assistance. I get to use this on my upcoming project now and I'm excited, to say the least. |

This did not fix my error. Now I'm getting mad. First, the product doesn't work. Now you advise that I delete my profile which still doesn't fix the issue. I suspect next you are going to advise a complete system rebuild. The inability of 6.0 to even launch made me feel like you had suckered me out of $129 but now that my profile has been whacked, you have adversly effected my ability to work. Great, still no fix... |

I did not suggest you delete your profile. That is what P2K did and it appears to have helped out his problem, though I can't comment on whether that specific aspect of what he did was the cause of his problem. From your previous posts, you stated that you renamed/moved the two DLLs and you still had a crash. As I indicated renaming/moving these two DLLs removes all VST and VSTi support from ACID 6. This indicates that something else is causing ACID to fail at start up. That is, VST and VSTi scanning is not causing the problem. If you could try the following: - Replace the VST and VSTi DLLs - Locate ACID6ReWire.dll J:\Program Files\Sony\ACID Pro 6.0\Audio Hardware Drivers and rename to ACID6ReWire.foo or move it to a different directory. - Locate sfrewiresynth.dll J:\Program Files\Sony\ACID Pro 6.0\MIDI Drivers and rename to sfrewiresynth.foo or move it to a different directory. Try launching ACID again. If this doesn't solve the problem, try launching ACID again, but this time hold down the Shift+Ctrl key when you launch. When ACID crashes, do you get any type of error msg dialog? If so, exactly what does it say? Peter Message last edited on4/11/2006 12:01:03 PM bypwppch. |

Every time I lost plugins from the list or I got crashes, I delete the Plugs key from the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Media Software\ACID Pro\6.0\Metrics\VSTi Synth) and when I reload Acid all goes well. My humble method is to move all the plugins from the plugins folder before AcidPro6 install, and then move them again one by one and load Acid for every plugin. <Every time I lost plugins from the list or I got crashes, I delete the Plugs key from the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Media Software\ACID Pro\6.0\Metrics\VSTi Synth) and when I reload Acid all goes well.> I've noticed this before, but I think this could be the problem for myself and jcoplin: In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Media Software\ACID Pro\6.0 ---- THERE IS NO: 1). Metrics folder (which is loaded with tons of stuff in the 5.0 metrics folder); 2). DXCache (which, again is loaded with tons of stuff in the 5.0 DXCache folder); 3). File Format Cache (again, 5.0 is loaded) The Lang and Licence folders for 6.0 do show up and do appear to be correct. I have downloaded the setup file a couple of different times with the same results: it appears the setup file is not loading all of the necessary data into the registry to launch the application. Question: should ACID 5.0 be uninstalled to get a correct/complete install of 6.0? I'm reluctant, as 5.0 works fine and I have a CD due out soon (don't want to screw up). Thanks, Ian |

hi. same problem. during scanning of vst plugs and instruments acid close itself without errors or something else. but... really interesting thing, when i was in this forum page, (with my browser opened), without seeing the acid6 popup window with the scan in progress, acid starts. strange. can someone try to do a start scan in this situation? it is not a solution because after start, another problem, (rewire error), creates an exception but this time with one report. acid60k and user32 dll's. i'm really confused. i have fruity6 installed without his rewire client active. if this problem happens only to some of us i think the reason is not the plugins we have on our computers, tracktion and fruity, for example, recognize everythings well. and acid 5 works fine! sony help us... acid6 is not ready to play.... (not in all pc's...) thank you to all |

I actually ended up doing a completely clean XP reinstall. It solved the problem for about two days. Everything ran fine with the exception of rewire acting strange and not working about 90% of the time... Now, it is back to bombing out on the loads just like before. I have not installed *anything* since I did the reinstall of Acid 6 and it suddenly is now not working again. Sony, please get this figured out! I want my $129 back... |
