When inserting a new MIDI track, I'm not prompted for a location and file name, if the option "Autoname new MIDI tracks" is unchecked.

Could this be a bug ?

That’s because MIDI tracks are no longer stored in separate files. They are all kept in the project file now. So there is no filename to prompt for anymore. I think this is a huge improvement because sometimes I just like to play around with some MIDI stuff and never save anything and now I don’t have to go back and delete a bunch of unwanted files.

This is a bug. MIDI tracks are not file based. (They actually havn't been since ACID 4.)

Sorry, I don't understand.

What's the bug ? The Autoname option not handled properly or the fact that the user is not prompted for a file name ?

Why do you say that MIDI tracks are not file based since Acid 4 ? In Acid 4, it's possible to choose the location and the name of the new MIDI file.

Can you explain ?

In ACID 6, no MIDI file is created when recording. Therefore there is no need to autoname anything.

In ACID 4/5 once a MIDI file was loaded, the underlying MIDI file was ignored and not needed. Only if you manually wrote out changes to the MIDI file did the file get updated.

We actually recorded to internal memory and then saved the file out and then reloaded it in ver 4/5. Once it was loaded the file was never looked at again.

The bug is that we have an "autoname" pref. It does nothing.
