Just want to verify something about the behavior of drum maps that seems a little strange: If I assign a drum map to a midi track, the drum note names show up in the inline track editor. However, if I click on Track Properties>Clip Pool and then double-click on the clip to open up the Clip Properties, the Piano Roll Editor still has a keyboard and not the drum note names. Also the List Editor still shows note names (C, C#, etc) instead of drum note names. Is that really the way it is, or am I doing something wrong?

This is the way it is. The inline editing mode is the only place where drum maps are used.

Seems like Sony only half-finished the job here. The piano roll view is a better place to edit. But if you don't have the drum map.....

We will review your feedback and consider your suggestions for a future version of ACID.

Thank you for your feedback.

FWIW, I was also surprised that drum maps are only implemented inline and not in the midi editing window. Consider this my vote for this feature. I would rather edit midi tracks in the dedicated window than in the tracks (although that is awesome for quick edits.

Realize, that you are not editing the MIDI track in the clip editor. Just the clip is getting edited.

So, if you have 5 different clips on a track, the clip Piano Roll editor only edits the clip you have selected.

This is just like it was in ACID 4/5, only expanded to handle the multiple clips of the track.

That's alright... clip or track... that makes no difference to me in this instance. What I'd like to see is the drum map in the clip editor as I find it easier to work with because elements are larger and the volume sliders are not mingled with the notes themselves (which is an incredibly useful feature for inline editing). Maybe I'm just too used to doing this in Sonar (which I have no intention of returning to) but I just prefer the less "cluttered" view of the clip editor for editing/adding midi notes.

FWIW:
You can hide the "Volume" sliders and envelopes very easily.

Also, you can toggle the view of any give MIDI track by just clicking the min|max control on the track header.

You can also hide the track left fader areas by hitting Shift-F11.

Thanks for the pointers. For many reasons I am only now returning to making music more seriously and working with Acid after a (too long) hiatus. I'll learn all the interface details and shortcuts and will probably learn to prefer to work inline in time. I have some time to make up as the last version I used was Acid Pro 4.
