All, Just got the trial installed last night and had two significant crashes right off the bat. Unlike those having install issues etc...my install was fine. Took a bit of time to grind through my VSTi selection but everything was enumerated correctly. I wanted to see how the midi and audio recording was so I created a very small project consisting of two loops, one midi (With Atmosphere as a soft synth) and one audio track (Gtr) My crashes occured so violently and so fast that I didn't have time to make notes but here's was I can recall: 1. In the first crash - The project was playing back (everything recorded fine both MIDI and audio) and I was attempting to fill in the name of track 3 - Atmos Bass when a nasty stuttering began. I immediately got an ugly dialog box stating that Acid has encountered a serious problem and needed to close. My only option was to hit OK on this box...and down she went. No log or anything else (Does Acid have an error log?) 2. In the second crash - The project was again playing back (everything recorded fine both MIDI and audio) and I was attempting to try the pan control on track 3 (which BTW didn't appear to do anything) when Acid just disappeared completely. No ugly dialogs...no nothing. Sorry for the lack of info...but this all occurred in less than 5 minutes. After the second crash - I had at least saved the project prior - and I was able to open it again. But no further problems during playback. Hope this helps the dev team in some smal way. Cheers! EDIT 4/7/2006: A slight adjustment to my sound card buffers seems to have really helped. I piled on the tracks in my little "test" project and A6 stayed rock solid. I did discover a bug with the Blue synth from Rob Papen. Added it as the second softsynth to the project and was able to at least record one MIDI track using it as output. After adding a third VSTi (NI's FM7) - Blue seemed to lose all connection to the project and it's track. It's patch assignments, track assignments etc stayed solid - but it was almost like the track auto-muted itself...nothing I did could get a sound happening. I had to delete it from the project. Even re-adding it did not help. |

Sounds like the memory problem I had with the Intel motherboard only it didn't crash just played garbled. JJK |

JJ, Shortly after my Acid "trip", I decided to reproduce the exact same project layout in Nuendo....and got the same ugly stuttering noises and glitching. That immediately put me on alert to a problem with hardware. I was running the Delta 1010 at 256 samples (5ms) on my ASUS A8V Deluxe with the AMD x64 4400+ CPU. I noticed these little burps here and there with various app combinations and really thought nothing of it. But as soon as it happened in both apps consistently - I knew either I had some major hardware problems or too aggressive of a buffer setting. Moving the Delta to 384 samples (8ms) cleared up the problem in both hosts. I really pounded A6 last night...and it stayed tight with everything I could throw at it....except that "Blue" synth issue I mentioned. I am very impressed thus far. Looks like Sony spent some quality time making this initial release very solid. Cheers! VP |
