This applies only to the following but has been tested and repro'd on the 6 workstations here and applies to the following vsti's Kontakt 2.0 Guitar Rig 2.0 SampleTank 2.0 Amplitube 1.3 Reaktor 5.0 Spektral Delay 1.0 When they init, the vsts' themselves are doing a load check and sort for the presets directory that you last loaded. In the case of Guitar Rig and Kontakt, if the libraries are extensive. They will take upto 4-8 minutes to sort each and every preset in the folder you last selected. They may also very well fail in low memory conditions or if they cannot assume the resources from the memory pool to load and store/sort properly and have to shift to paging file to complete - slowing the process to nearly the appearance of a halt/crash Workaround: open the standalone and select an arbitrary dir default to scan at load up. the init time for vegas/acid forge will reduce exponentially and seemingly becomes much more stable overall with this option selected. (scan time reduced to a matter of 2-3 seconds versus the before mentioned minutes) and the process completed each and every time rather than hanging Important note: report this to your vst vendor and let them know this default behaviour is a nuisance and causing stability problems in third party hosts. It's the only way it will change for the users of those hosts. Sony cannot alter the behaviour of third party vsts obviously -so it's back to NI and the others to make their products act right The forum Admin might want to add this to the FAQ or make it a temp sticky in order for newcomers and those with these problems aware of the issue Message last edited on4/6/2006 7:42:08 AM bySpheris. |
