Subject:ACID 6.0 Copy Protection?

Hello, Anyone who has taken the upgrade plunge, can you confirm that Sony had not changed the C.P. scheme? With 5.0 it was serial # only for the boxed versions and Challenge/Response for downloaded versions. The addtion of N.I. Kompact could have required Sony to change this policy so I just want to understand this before buying. Thanks, Brad Message last edited on4/3/2006 9:22:22 AM byBradster. |

The download upgrade uses challenge/response. I haven't received the Kontakt synth yet so can't say what CP it uses. In a nutshell ACID CP is still the same. |

Thanks Spectralis. I'm hoping that the boxed version remains serial# only, otherwise it's a non-starter for me. Awaiting a response from Sony customer service to confirm. |

It's always been serial number + authorisation code even in the SoFo days... |

Sorry! I'm wrong, wrong, wrong! It is a serial for ACID 6 but I think it needs registration via web before it will authorise the full version. I'm always connected to web so I just registered ACID automatically. I'm not 100% sure if registration is mandatory. It's not the challenge/response system that NI uses with Kompakt etc. |

Thanks again, Spectralis. I think there's some confusion here between Registration and Activation. Registration is optional if the scheme is serial# only. You can set ACID (Or S.F.) to not prompt you to register or attempt to contact the mother ship. But with Activiation (as is in place on the downloaded versions) you must Register not only yourself but your machine with Sony in order to function. I just received a reply from customer support confirming that the C.P. scheme has not changed since 5.0. Good move on Sony's part. I'll be ordering the boxed version today.... |

Why is that such a big deal though. I have 2 computers not connected to the internet and it's easier to not have to register, but even when you have to ( installation of acid5c screwed up all of Sony's apps , and I had to register all of them again ) It doesn't take that long. export an html file , take it to the pc connected to the web and then return registration e-mail back, maybe 2 minutes. Much less painful than using some other software every day. And you can legally have it installed on more than one machine ( desktop/laptop ), as long as they aren't used simultaneously |

I can confirm that the serial number / registration process is exactly the same as previous versions. I have installed AP6 on both my machines with no problem. REALLY good to see that Sony has kept this going from SF days. |
