We're here, we've got fast connections, we love to save trees, why can't we download the rest of the content that comes with Acid Pro 6?

Just a thought...either way, good job guys, this is what we wanted.

Peace!

Seconded. I don't have a DVD drive in my computer yet but I'm on broadband and I could download everything easily. I agree that it should be an option.

Having everyone hammer their server downloading over 2.5 GB apiece would not work. You'd be more frustrated with broken downloads and long waits than you'll be while waiting for it in the mail.

That's what mirrors were invented for.

I think it would be great if there was a sort-of Sony Torrent-client for downloading their software. Some companies have already found a use for the torrent system of file transfering (like Blizzard). This could help take a lot of load off of the server while allowing them to really expand their content. On the other hand, "torrent" can be such a nasty word to software companies that they could easily frown on the idea. Still, that's my two cents.

I think Sony using Bittorrent would create a conflict of interest toward their other divisions, don't you? :)

2.5 GB for the Kompakt content. Don't you think that's a bit...much?

I have a high-speed connection too but even I'm not that patient. I'd rather just get the sucker on DVD.

lol, not that patient?! How's it easier to wait five or six business days for a package to arrive then it is to let something download for 90 minutes or so?

:)

Because:

a) Not even the bigwigs want to host that much data transfer. It'd cost a fortune just to keep up with the traffic...or break because the allotment's been exceeded. (Multiply 2.5 GB times how many would try and download it, which would be oodles.)

b) The DVD doubles as backup in the event your media drive goes kablooey.

c) I'd be much more understanding and patient knowing distributing the content on DVD is much more cost-effective for the business vs. trying to distribute the content electronically.

I'm going to throw this in as well..

We live ina EULA, iLOK, License server oriented time.

Myself. I like physical hard copies of my purchases - that means install disc, printed manuals for me to read in bed. not on my desktop and the sense that if one day - it all goes topside down..I look no further than my desk drawer for the discs - god forbid I ever have to but its a sense of assurance a company like sony/cakewalk and a few others offer in the present day where you buy it all off an e-store and barely get a receipt and sometimes have to beg to get them to send a reg code half the time.

Just a thought. request the disc - be glad and take some comfort in having it.

Good luck w/the printed manuals quest...I'd like to see it but I doubt it's comin' back.

And I disagree that it's more cost-effective to make DVD's then just selling downloads, that's absurd.

Just for bandwidth alone, 2.5GB probably costs about 26 cents to transfer. Add on top of that access line fees, server maintenance, wear and tear on the hard drive, electricity, etc ... and it may very well cost as much to provide the downloads as to have DVDs replicated. On the other hand, there are no shipping charges with downloads, so in that respect it should still be cheaper.

On the other hand, until everyone has 3mbps into their homes, there is still going to be a huge demand for physical distribution, and that's the market that has to be satisfied because it can serve all of us.

meh, I downloaded the app so they're already doin it both ways to some extent...anyway, it's just a suggestion but the cost of providing a download is definitely not gonna be higher than the cost of producing and mailing a DVD. No way.
