k.. now first thanks for acid 6 finally. i didnt have the time to go through every new feature but i was thinking about an additional feature since v5. specially now in v6 im missing it even more...

having a sample on the track - lets say a bass kick - acid lets me change the sample by opening the clip properties and select a new file. this is excellent, but people like me have a lot of samples in one folder and really like to go through every of them by just klick "next sample". of course this should work when the whole project is running so i can listen to the changed sample in realtime!

sony.. please? :-)

I’m not understanding because ACID has always had the ability to do this. If you highlight any number of samples in the Explorer view, ACID will cycle through playing each of them in turn while the project is playing. You can even control this behavior in the Options > Preferences > Other tab by changing the number of times each loop repeats and how long to play one shots and beatmapped files.

Is this not what you are looking for?

I am not sure if this is what you are asking for, but one of the many new cool features, of ACID Pro 6, is the inclusion of the Clips Bin . You can drag & drop multiple media files, from the Loop Explorer view (or Media Manager), onto a track, at different places and then, say move all the files, one by one to the beginning, of the project (1.1.000), one directly on top of the either. Let's say (4) 4 measure audio loops. Click on the Clips Bin icon, (next to the Pan slider) to verify all of your clips. Now enable the Loop Region bar on that (4) bar section and let it continue to play and loop and click on (highlight/select) the top clip. Now as it plays, each time you press the C keyboard shortcut, and the loops will cycle through, one at a time, in realtime, all the loops loaded in that tracks Clips bin. Press Shift + C to go cycle though, in the opposite direction.

Cheers,

Billy Buck

thx for the answers but thats not what i mean.

here is what i do:

load for example a hihat sample on the track and put it on each 1/4 hit.

then im not satisfied with the sample i did choose. :-p

now i right click a single instance of these just added samples and select "clip properties". now theres a button called "replace..:"

of course i can click the button as much i want to replace the sample, but i have to always go through the openfile dialog and select the sample. assuming i have a big folder with a lot of hihats i just want to select the next available sample file. got it? this could be done by some arrows just jumping to the next available wav file in the same directory of the first loaded sample...

i just like to be able to skip trhough the files existing in the same folder as the already loaded sample and replace this one by the next available one ;-)

sort of like an advance way to audition raw samples -- clever

Klirrfaktor: The "replace" function is still there. Either right-click the event in question and select Clip Properties, or go into the Clip Pool and select the desired clip by double-clicking it.

hey.. i didnt say the function is missing... read carefully:

now i right click a single instance of these just added samples and select "clip properties". now theres a button called "replace..:"

BUT it takes a lot of time to replace samples by using this button. specially if you have a folder with hundreds of files named with ongoing numbers like kick01, kick02, kick03 etc. its too much of point and click work just for selecting the next available sample!

Klirrfaktor,
We don't have _exactly_ the function you're describing, but you can use the technique that Billy Buck mentioned above to accomplish the same thing pretty painlessly.

Start with a track that has a oneshot kickdrum part that you like.
Drag a hundred different kickdrum oneshots into that Track's Clip Pool window (or drag onto the little oneshot icon on the track header), to fill the Clip Pool with alternate Clips.
Select all of the kickdrum events on the timeline.
Start playing back looped, so you can hear what's going on.
Use the "c" or "shift+c" keyboard shortcuts to update all the selected events to use the next Clip in the list. Once you hear the right one, then you can use the "remove unused clips" button in the Clip Pool to dump all the Clips that you didn't use. Or leave them around for later.
This works for Loops and/or Beatmaps as well.

Thanks,

Here's another thing I miss from Vegas.

Why can't we drag an event between tracks? Once an event is placed into a track it is locked there for all drag operations. I can cut and paste it to a different track, but this is a little cumbersome.

Is there any reason why dragging is disabled between tracks?

Otherwise, I am pretty impressed with Acid so far with respect to its Vegas-like multitrack editing. I love the control on tempo and measures. I especially love the "Adjust tempo to match marker to cursor" feature to create a tempo map to existing tracks!

So far I have found these other differences:

1) No dragging events between tracks. A little cumbersome for editing.
2) Waveform amplitude display does not change over crossfades. This was a useful visual aid I thought.
3) Chopper is different from Trimmer. I can live with the Chopper paradigm, but it would be nice to be able to have Chopper work between tracks. For example, if I select an event in Track 1, I can't "chop" it into Track 2.

Cheers,

Randy

Whoops, my bad. :) Definitely try what Billy and Frank suggested.

I was kind of mystified myself about this.

hey thanks all for answering. that solution provided is pretty near to what i was looking for... thanks guys.. this just rocks!! but its still a step between i have to do extra... why not let acid just go trough every sample in the folder when just pressing c on a clip without having them loaded into clip pool? ;-) or maybe another key to seperate the command from the already existing one... :-))) just a little suggestion he he
