Subject:RE: Acid Pro 6.0 MIDI Problem : multiple channels

AFAIK, Acid Pro 6 does not support multiple MIDI channels in a single MIDI file, unlike Acid Pro 4 & 5.
All the notes are now played through the unique default channel for the track.

In other words, it's no longer possible to set the MIDI channel to "-1" for the track in order to play multiple channels.

A lost feature ?

Correct. One MIDI channel per track.

Peter, why not add the "All" options to MIDI out, just like MIDI in ?
In relation to Acid 4.0 and Acid 5.0, it's a kind of regression.

I'm using that feature to program instruments articulations with soundfonts and Sfz+ VSTi (e.g. legato on channel 1, slide up on channel 2, tremolo on channel 3, ...) and it's very easy to change the MIDI channel in the list window.

In Acid 6, I will have to create multiple MIDI tracks, which is far less handy.

A feature for the next update ?

I hear your need.

The problem is multiple channels meant supporting 16 volume envelopes, 16 pan envelopes, etc, etc. This can get VERY ugly very fast. Additionally there was a workflow issue of what channel gets painted to when you are drawing notes out. When are you painting channel 1 or channel 12?

Note also that the track channel trumps everything. No matter what the raw MIDI data is, the track's channel is used.

This is unlikely to change in an update.

Peter,

The problem is multiple channels meant supporting 16 volume envelopes, 16 pan envelopes, etc, etc

You could keep one envelope per track and apply the envelope to all MIDI channels of that track.

what channel gets painted to when you are drawing notes out

The channel for painted notes could be the default channel of the track, if that channel is 1 through 16. If the MIDI output channel of the track is set to "All" (possible new feature), the painted notes could have the channel 1 by default.

No matter what the raw MIDI data is, the track's channel is used

As mentioned before, you could add the "All" option for MIDI out, for the notes be played through their own channel, as it was the case with channel "-1" in Acid Pro 4 and 5.

This is just a suggestion to keep the full compatibility with previous versions of Acid.

Thanks for the input. We will consider it for a future version of ACID.
