I'm using a USB 2 capture device that compresses the video signal (from analog VCR) on the fly. Unfortunately it doesn't allow me to capture in anything but MPEG formats (MPEG 1 and 2 with different quality settings within each). I'd prefer to capture in .AVI (disk space is not an issue). Will capturing in MPEG 2 (even at the highest quality setting) affect the visual quality of the resulting render? I know MPEG 2 is DVD quality, but isn't rendering from MPEG to MPEG going to compress the compression? That can't be good...
