Subject:ACID Pro 6 release getting closer

I just got my April issue of Electronic Musician and thumbing through the pages, what did I see, on page 83? A full page Sony ACID Pro 6 advert:

NEW ACID PRO 6. MUSIC CREATION REFORMULATED

It won't be long now fellas! I am thinking Sony will want to make a big splash with an official release announcement @ Musik Meese, next week.

Cheers,

Billy Buck

Mmh, I understand that people are longing for the new Acid Pro 6.0.
However...

Each new version comes with its new features and drawbacks.
For instance, Acid Pro 4 does not support the multiple VSTi outputs, Acid Pro 5 does support them but it's unable to control the number of outputs really used ! People who still need one output per VSTi in Acid Pro 5 just have to do with useless channels in the mixer...

Acid Pro 5 and Acid Music Studio 6 both have a bug within the piano roll (see my other topic for details).

Years ago, I have tested some well-known hosts to choose the one that fits my needs. I have tried Cubase, Sonar, Fruity Loops, Orion and others I don't even remember the name. Acid (versions 2.0 and 3.0 at that time) was the most handy software for music creation : clean display with no useless graphics, best performance, very intuitive interface, unlike other hosts that often put the most buttons as possible per centimeter square...

Acid Pro 6 is announced as a major update with a lot of new features. At first sight, I'm wondering if the interface will be as clean as before... More features means more menu options, more buttons, more windows, maybe more cpu and, who knows, more bugs...

Anyway, let's wait and see. I plan to use the trial version of Acid Pro 6 for a while before upgrading. In the meantime, I will still be using the current version, known to be reliable.

Why not take a look at the screen shots in the ACID brochure on the Sony site. To me, it looks like the same ole’ clean interface. Nothing jumps out at me as being overly complex. Not like when you open SONAR and feel like your looking at the console for the Space Shuttle! To me those ACID screen shots look like the ACID that we all know and love. (only more powerful under the hood)

Think about it. There are no totally new functions that never existed before. They always recorded audio, now it’s multi-track. They always recorded MIDI, now there is in-line MIDI editing (that might even fix your piano roll bug but who knows). Everything is enhanced yet familiar looking in those photos. It looks to me like Sony kept it within the ACID paradigm so that everyone feels comfortable.

But you’re right, we will just have to wait and see.

There is absolutely nothing to lose by upgrading and a lot to gain. I'll still have ACID 5 so I don't see any problem with upgrading straight away. If there are bugs then so what? Every upgrade I've ever bought has had it's share of bugs that take a few updates to sort out. In the meantime an upgrade brings so many new things that a few bugs are a price worth paying IMO.

I think you'll find there are amazingly few changes (given the depth added to the app in this release).

I'm not actually a beta tester (though I've tested for one of Sony's rivals and could have given the MIDI a thorough examination) but I did have the good fortune to see and try ACID Pro 6 at a couple of shows in London.

Will it arrive before the weekend or next week? This is a serious case of teasing and I fear the ACID hordes will storm Sony Towers if much more of this goes on.

Oh, come on! It's just a software upgrade! No matter how good, it's not going to revolutionise the world.

I'll be waiting a few weeks to see the bug reports. Twice bitten - now very shy.

I'm just amazed at the lack of information Sony is providing to longtime users of this product. First they annoucned a date that never happened, now there hasn't been any new information for over a month from Sony about the release date. The fact it is only a few days before 1 APR and still no emails to those who asked for email notification makes me very suspicious about Sony's credibility and perhaps they are rushing to get it done, meaning a lot of bugs are potential in the early release. Also, what about the upgrade pricing or early pre-orders we always enjoyed with Sonic Foundry prior to the purchase of this product by Sony. I too want this newer version to once for all leave all other products on the shelf (now with multitrack capabilities), but I'm very disappointed in the way Sony has handled this particular release, I hope it isn't a trend as I always watch with anticipation for releases of new versions of Sound Forge, and Vegas. I've written to Sony Customer service about this and haven't received any improved information when I brought this issue to their attention, I'm hoping this isn't a sign of bad times to come because this product line has been my mainstay for years now; hope it's not dying on the vine, so to speak. Hopefully Sony will provide some real information soon because I can't afford to wait on other purchases due to lack of information for decision making. Just my thoughts and concerns about this particular topic; seems the words coming soon, have been abused for too long on their site to have effectual meaning any longer.

Actually, I’m amazed that Sony announced ACID early. Sonic Foundry would have never done that. They use to deny there would even be anther version until it shipped. I’m glad Sony changed that.

Don’t forget, Sony demoed ACID Pro 6 at NAMM back in January! So they’ve had solid running code three (3) months ago! I wouldn’t worry.

I'm using AP4 at the moment and would like to hear from anyone who has information on the upgrade price from 4 2 6.

6 is, I've read, a fully featured DAW so I do'nt expect that its going to be cheap so the sooner I get the information the better as I'll then know how much I need to cut back on my bar bill.

All info gratefully recieved.

regards

Sweetwater has Acid Pro 6 for $249, so I would assume it will less than that. Also you can buy Acid Pro 5 for $199 with free upgrade. I would guess the update will be $150 like the upgrade for 4 to 5. A maxium for $199 I would guess.
IMHO
