Subject:Clipping with 'T's and P's' in Vocal Recordin

I am new to recording vocal. I have a good track that I want to use. However, there are about 5 places throughout the file that my T's or P's really stand out and seem to almost clip the meter.

As I know nothing about editing, is there anything I can use to help with this issue?

Purchase a pop filter to place infront of your microphone while recording vocals. this well diffuse the air that's hitting the mic thus reducing by a great margin the clipping from your P, T, B and S sounds. Pop filters run in quite a wide price range. If your looking to save cash you can make your own. All you need is a coat hanger and some nylons. Bend the hanger into a circle then wrap the nylons over it tightly creating a screen. Presto! Instant Pop filter (aka Wind screen).

If you have already recorded a track with pops or thumps, you can try using a frequency-conscious compressor to reduce the impact. I use the Waves C1 compressor, and there is a preset for pop reduction that works fairly well. The Sony Multi-band dynamics plugin has a preset for "Remove loud plosives" that should do the same thing. You will have to experiment with the threshold and maybe frequency to get it to work well.

What is the difference between threshold and frequency?

also, where do I find the Waves C1 compressor? Is that used in SF7 as well?

- It comes with SF8 and most previous versions. Which version do you have? Check out the plug-ins you have (you may need to read the manual a little!)

- Waves C! is a separate product, not made by Sony. It is a high-end set of plug-ins.

SF includes multiband dynamics, and there is a preset for reducing plosives.

I find it easier to fix them manually. I highlight the plosive, and do a graphic fade. I set the fade at the end points to 0 dB, and have a single point at the peak of the plosive several dB down.
