Subject:What happened to "W" key shortcut?

In all the previous versions of Sound Forge, the W key would return the cursor to the beginning of the file. It's also there in Vegas 6 and other programs (like Sonar), but not in SF8. Where'd it go?

Apparently you have to bind those keys yourself now. I cant live without the W and E keys so I programmed them myself. But then I went to put them onto another computer and couldnt get it to work. I could put in ALT-W but it wouldnt accept just W. Since I've been using these 2 keys hundreds of times every day for almost ten years now (including in cakewalk/Sonar) its a SERIOUS inconvenience!!

I've noticed another annoyance with this, don't know if it's strictly a bug or not, but it's certainly a change of behaviour from all other SF versions. Once you do manage to assign 'W', or even if you're using Page Up, hitting it no longer necessarily takes you to the beginning of the file, but instead to the start of where you're zoomed into on the waveform... if that makes sense.

In other words, if you're fully zoomed out, it's no problem and 'rewind' fully takes you back to the start of the file. But say you've zoomed into that file so you can no longer see the start, 'rewinding' then only takes you to the beginning of that zoomed section.

I've found this really irritating. Any chance of a fix in the next update, Sony?

The equivalents for previous W and E shortcuts are Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End.

You can re-assign them in Options->Prefs->Keyboard:
(1) Select "Data Window" in "Context:" if it isn't already
(2) Select "Cursor To: Data Home" in "Available commands:"
(3) Click in the "Press new shortcut keys:" window and hit 'W', then "Assign"
(4) Select "Cursor To: Data End" in "Available commands:"
(5) Click in the "Press new shortcut keys:" window and hit 'E', then "Assign"
(6) Click "Apply" and/or "OK"

Shift+W and Shift+E should also work as you'd expect after this.

PageUp/Down and Ctrl+PageUp/Down shift by 10% or 100% of the current view width. Hence, they are relative to the current zoom level. This has been the case since Sound Forge 4.5.

Ah, typo on my behalf - I meant Home rather than Page Up.

But that doesn't change the fact that your suggestions fix what I was talking about - thanks J!

Hi Ben,

Ctrl+Home always takes you all the way back to the start of the file, Ctrl+End always takes you all the way to the end of the file.
(for when you are zoomed in).

Same in Vegas (substitute 'file' with 'project')
