In Sound Forge 8, if I am editing a 24 bit file and I choose to save it as (Save As) a 16 bit 44.1 khz .wav file, does SF automatically dither the file? Or is it truncated? If it does dither the file, what parameters does it follow to dither the file? What are the default parameters? |

No, it does not (currently) automatically dither. You can use Process->Bit Depth Converter to apply dither with or without noise shaping before saving. J. |

So how does it reduce the wordlength from 24 to 16 bits? It must truncate. |

Yes, it truncates. |

Man, that's a little disappointing, but at least now I know. |
