Are there any loop libraries of just hihat and ride cymbal patterns? Ideally I'd like individual hits at different volumes as well as a selection of loops of ride and hihat patterns played on the same instruments as the individual hits. |

Well here's a disk that has some hihat and ride cymbal patterns on it. It also has individual hits and a bunch of drum patterns. I might get it but I'll keep looking: http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/reviewdetails.asp?ProdReviewID=22 Message last edited on3/14/2006 7:32:38 PM byLaurence. |

OK I ordered the Pendegrass library. What I'm looking to do is drum parts with kicks, snares and crash cymbals done as one shot hits and hihat and ride patterns being done as loops. Toms will probably be done as individual hits, but I'd love some good tom fill loops as well. |

It's a great concept. I've thought about such a thing, but have never searched one out. Hihats are probably the hardest thing to get programmed to sound real. Come back and let us know how the Pendegrass library works for it. |

Also check out DMS: Drum Module Samples from Hark Productions. These are a collection of patterns on single drums, cymbals, etc. that you can quickly assemble into beats. Some of their other libraries like Retro Active also have these bits of drums that you can assemble into beats. Hark has some great libraries on their site. I use them all the time. ~jr |

I'll check those out. I know that some libraries like Studio ProFiles and Drums on Demand have loops available where every drum is miked and the loops are available separately. These are not what I'm looking for because there is so much bleed across the mics that you cannot use them separately to mix and match patterns. |

The Hark DMS collection looks like exactly what I'm looking for. Call me oldfashioned, but I still like to process the kick and snare separately from the rest of the kit with a little extra low end on the kick and just a touch more reverb on the snare. You can't tweak the drum sound when they're all mixed together. I just ordered the DMS collection. I'll post how it works out when I get it. I also downloaded the free collection at the Hark link. Yeah that's exactly what I'm looking for. Message last edited on3/15/2006 7:08:38 AM byLaurence. |

Hi, I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but Smart Loops has a bunch of single hit WAVs of drums at many velocity levels... http://www.smartloops.com/products/samplesets/ They have a whole bunch of free loops available for ACID too. |

I have Smart Loops and just did a couple of tunes using the single hit wavs. I pieced together hihat patterns out of the individual hihat hits. That's what sounds the weakest in these drum parts. That and the pieced together ride cymbal patterns. That's what got me so interested in libraries of hihat and ride cymbal patterns. |

I knew a guy who had a loop CD that was full of Hat, tambourine and percussion loops. It was extremely, extremely handy. Can’t for the life of me remember what it was called... |

Were you using just the few samples that came on the loop CDs? They have recently released a bunch of sample kits that have tons of velocity samples. Take a listen to the demos on their new Tight Kit and you be the judge... http://www.smartloops.com/products/samplesets/tightkit.html |

Going through my old Acid Loop CDs, I found exactly the types of hihat and ride cymbal patterns I was looking for on my Drum Tools CD, available from the Sony site here: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/loop_libraries/showloop.asp?SPID=61 They sound wonderful, actually played well and with feeling. The hihat and ride patterns on the Hark collection I ordered sound programmed and no better than if I cut in the same patterns from individual hits or play them off a keyboard or drum machine type sequencer. The Drum Tools hihat, ride (and brush snare which I hadn't even realized I need until I heard it) are just wonderful. I just wish I could find more loops done this way. |
