well, i must say i am completely new to this. last night while trying work on a remix i was getting irritated with the crappy sounds on my keyboard. so i remembered seeing this wierd keyboard type instrument on PC screen shots (soft synths). so i did a search for some legit freebies. found a couple. i then found out they work through MIDI. Am i able to take a MIDI cable from my keyboard's MIDI out to my PC's MIDI in and control the soft synth that way. Am i able to record the audio that's produced. if i do a mix down will the MIDI file be included (mix down is done as a .wav) thanks |

The answer to all of those questions is YES. Just plug your MIDI keyboard into your PC and play the VSTi’s as if they were rack mount MIDI modules. When you mix down, their output will automatically be included in the mix. ~jr |

There are a lot of good free softsynths on the net. There is a free Sample Tank 2 from 1K Multimedia. A very good one. Also Sample Farm Free. An one that makes all kinds of funky sounds is Crystal From Green Oak Software. And of course you have the built in ones although not as good. So just search for Free VSTi and you will find many. Good luck. |
