I posted this a while back and got no replies. On 1/9/06 Rob A wrote the following to help prevent random SF 8 freezes. "End every process except:
alg.exe
ccmexec.exe
csrss.exe
explorer.exe
lsass.exe
MsPMSPSv.exe
services.exe
smss.exe
spoolsv.exe
svchost.exe
system idle process
system
taskmgr.exe
winlogon.exe
wmiprvse.exe
Is there a way to permanently end processes so you don't have to do the "Cntrl/ALT/Delete" key sequence every time you boot up??

Depending on your OS, there are different ways. Try this link

ending of any processes? Ridiculous - FIX SF8. ASAP!

It's not an optimization issue.

Sony? Where are you with this? Update your users.
This is so unprofessional.

One sony tech replied in this forum that "he sees the problem now...".
And that was all that was said. No word that it would be fixed, that an update is in the works, when an update will surface, or ny workarounds for users until then.

And - SF8 batch converter NEEDS WORK as well. There's RANDOM crashing, plugins not retaining settings upon batching, auto-trim process does NOT work in sf8 batch converter (yet works in the old foundry 5.0b batch converter), just plenty that needs a thorough once over.

Ridiculous. This product should get this attention, it's your flagship 2-track editor for christs sake.

>>>Is there a way to permanently end processes so you don't have to do the "Cntrl/ALT/Delete" key sequence every time you boot up??<<<

Start - settings - control panel
administrative tools - services

for each service you want to disable from auto-starting, select it...
- right click, select PROPERTIES
- stop the service from running
- set from AUTOMATIC to MANUAL (usually better than DISABLED, as you may need to call upon the service from time to time).

*if you know you never want a service starting, set to DISABLED.

Note: there are many services (described in nearly every WinXP optimization site) that you don't want to mess with, depending on your setup XP may need these for proper functionality.

Umm, some info is still valid, but I would question it's validity in 2006.
I'm leary with any document stating (deciding on an OS)...

"Windows 2000 has been around
longer and many pros consider it more stable. It’s true that XP’s still working out some of
the kinks, but by and large it’s proving to be pretty robust. W2k has had more time in use,
thus benefits from more users’ problem reports and (hopefully) the resulting fixes."

What f'n "pro" is that? He won't work for me I'll tell ya that much.
This doc written upon first release of XP or what?
W2K is to be avoided with any a/v-daw system, kmixer probs (yes, still!!) alone.

www.musicxp.com and being careful to just tweak the important/applicable (not all tweaks).

I use win 2000 and am a profesional with my own company, and am also the sample producer for Image-Line. Win 2000 is merely XP without the eye candy.

My fault - more clarification:

A/V - DAW work (real studio tracking, not just average use): One word should sum it up - kmixer.
WinXP is the smarter route (out of windoze that is).
