Where did YOU buy Vegas???

Just a couple quick questions if you'll all be so kind:

(1) - When you first bought Vegas (if you can recall), did you go to a software company that you already knew? or just try and find the lowest possible price at the time?

(2) - When you upgraded, did you got directly to the sony upgrade deal? to your favorite software site/store? or again - the cheapest place you could find it on the net. =)

Thanks - Just curious - I have been going to school for marketing and am curious as to how most people buy their editing software.

First purchase daughter and I were starting editing and purchased through an academic reseller. After that directly from Sony.

Always searched for the least expensive legitimate source. That turned out to be an academic retailer for the Video Factory 4 years ago, and has been Sonic Foundry's or Sony's existing owner every since I switched to Vegas.

I came to Vegas via Video Factory when they had a great upgrade promotion to move to Vegas. Video Factory 2 > Vegas 3 LE > Vegas 3. After that, I just kept upgrading to each new version.

I have always bought through the Sony website, as In Canada, we did not have a retail outlet choice until Vegas 5.

VideoFactory direct from SoFo, Vegas from AcademicSuperstore. Upgrades from Sony.

(edit) re: academic discount - the classes I took and am still taking are through University of Phoenix Online and run about $1500 a pop. At 41 years of age, getting Vegas cheap is the best benefit of these classes thus far :)

I bought mine from Safe Harbour. They had copies of Vegas 3 that they evaluated but they were not adding Vegas to the list of products they sold, so it was on clearance. Vegas 4 had just been announced. So I got Vegas 3 for $200 and Sonic Foundry gave me a free upgrade to Vegas 4. Pretty sweet deal for non academic version.

I suppose it wouldn't be fair if I didn't kick in my 2 bits on this now would it.

Bought Vegas from the cheapest place I could that seemed reputable and was non-academic (as I do this to make a living, if you can call it that ;-) ).

Then My upgrades have been direct from sony, though sometimes I may find it cheaper somewhere else, but I like to make sure that they get more of the money and can keep paying their great programmers :).

I bought direct from Sonic Foundry originally (Remember Them?) and then been downloading the upgrades online ever since (Sony).

I did finally get Acid Pro 5 from Safe Harbor (sharbor.com ) It had a $50 mail in rebate from Sony. I have been tracking it and I think my check may be in the mail box today. Yeah!!!

Rebates work best if you fill them out and send them in BEFORE you start playing with the new application. Otherwise you will forget, and then you did not get a deal after all.

Got a package deal from Videoguys. Kind of funny because I was working on a project with Premiere and tearing my hair out - downloaded the Vegas demo to see what all the buzz was about and that was it.

Vegas 2 off ebay, back when I was even dumber ,from an estate , yeah right , turned out to be pirated, no upgrades etc, 149.00 I think , from there all from sonicfoundry/sony.

V6 + DVD from Safe Harbour in a bundle with a training tutorial, some motion backgrounds, and the Sony sound library. It was a good bundle for someone who had nothing like me.

Same as winrock. V5 was one of my first ebay purchases. $185.00 later I was a criminal with software that I could neither upgrade or register. Or is it a crime to steal garbage? I get a much better feeling inside making purchases like this now thru Sony, as I have for V6, Acid 5, Sound Forge 8, DVDA3, etc.

V3 LE with the tutorial book by Spt (I belive that's who wrote it) throuhg SoFo site ($50 for the book & then the upgrade price to V4 was ~$100 cheaper then buying V4 outright). Then I upgrade to V4 via SoFo & in 2k5 I upgraded to V6. The upgrade price durring the $50 off phase easily comes under the educational prices (I[m not qualified anyway, but that's what I tell everyone else).

I ended up selling V3LE + book to someone I knew & gave V4 away. I'm nice, huh? :)
