This one is for one of the Sony peeps: Are there any significant changes in the way ACID Pro 6 will handle VST effects versus version 5? In version 5, it seemed like the VST handling was more of a glorified wrapper rather than true compatiblity as evident in certain VST effects doing weird things that are typical of a DX-VST Wrapper, especially when trying to use the presets. The big thing that I'm interested in is will I be able to get my TC Electronic Powercore Firewire working properly with ACID Pro 6, as it certainly doesn't work well with version 5. Anyways, other than that concern, it looks like all the things I ever wished ACID could be has been addressed except track Freeze capabilities, and I can't wait! |

I think it will be possible to draw control change envelopes in tracks. I certainly hope that VST's load easier. Synths seem to load pretty quickly but that plugin browser is clearly not the most ergonomic way to load effects. They take an age to load on my system. I don't think that's anything to do with cpu power or memory because in Sonar and Live all effects/synths load v fast. |

Oh, I forgot to mention the fact that ACID doesn't remember presets if you choose them in the plugin GUI. According to CamelAudio, U-He and LiveLab the VST implimentation is not correct. They all make very good VSTi's and have been very supportive by investigating the problems I was having using their plugins in ACID. CamelAudio have even contacted Sony to inform them of these problems with their VST implimentation. I believe their intervention may have spurred Sony on to sort this issue out. |

It’s totally speculation, but I’d be very surprised if they haven’t tidied this sorta stuff up. |

I replied: What exactly is the problem you're having using your PoCo with Acid 5? I use that same setup, even sharing the FW connection with an external hard drive for the laptop I'm using for my DAW software. What I have found that will make things works a lot smoother is to up the latency a bit to something like 12 to 16 milliseconds. Anything lower than that and I get communication errors between the PoCo and the computer. Jack |

Specific problems are things like: Every time a press play, the settings i've made in the plugin are reset to the default preset settings. Also, some plugins, like Filtroid, some of the faders and controls don't work, yet if I click somewhere in the middle of the plugin window, all of a sudden some random control setting will change. Also, I sometimes get Blue Screen crashes, and frequently have communication errors with the PoCo, forcing me to reset. I think those two errors actually might have to do with the chipset of my firewire interface, but the other problems are definitely ACID related. |

Again, can SONY please weigh in on this? Whether or not the issues with the way ACID handles VST plugins have been addressed can really be an important factor in my determining if I'm going to bother upgrading to Pro 6.0 when it comes out. I'm trying to decide if I'm willing to ditch the Powercore and try out a UAD-1 if this hasn't been fixed. Or if I should just say fuck it, and try to learn Cubase SX3. I think the irony in all this is that I bought the Powercore specifically so that I can purchase the Sony Oxford plugins suite. Need some input! |

Also, last thing of important note: Even the UAD-1 is porting all of their plugins from Direct X to VST versions on their next update, with no future support for Direct X. So, better get on this VST issues thing, mang! |

i can confirm these problems about vst support. for example arts acoustic reverb (which is a kickass plugin btw) does reset after i hit play again... this is quite annoying... ;-( i have overall the impression that acid does not handle vst plugins 100% correctly... ill let me surprise by the new version coming soon ;-)))) |

Update: I just had a chance to try out the TC Native Bundle 3.0 VST plugins in both ACID Pro5b, and in Sound Forge 8 on a friend's computer. They do the exact same kind of wierdness that my Powercore plugins do, which are very similar in operation. So, yup, Soundforge 8 has the same VST illness that ACID seems to suffer from. |

Guys for shts and giggles please post ALL vst plugins that you are having problems with. That way when march comes around we all see some smiles instead of frowns. Version number as well. A link would be cool too. I reported a problem recently with "clone ensemble" having the reset of parameters during stop/play. Anyone else? Also a step by step repro of any problem would be great...ie: 1)add audio to timeline. 2)dragged plugin from plugin manager to trk. 3)looped 9 measures>>tweaked settings. 4)pressed F12 once to stop then again to start bug...settings reset... Make sure to fill out your system specs too. Thanks. Ed. |

Sony's policy is that they are tightlipped until the product actually comes out. This is the opposite of other companies who promote "vaporware," software that claims tons of features are coming, but the features don't actually get into the shipping product. When the Acid demo become available is when you will find your answer. |

Just downloaded the demo for Cubase SX and tried out all the plugins i've been having difficulties with. In Cubase, these plugins all function perfectly with no sync loss or stability issues, so guess we can rule out hardware troubles. |
